Helping Gymnasts and Athletes take their skills forward

🏐 🚫 Stop Calling 9, 10, 11, 12-Year-Olds 'Elite' @wgcoaching ... an expert physiologist is saying.

Because they’re not.

➡️ FOLLOW | @netballtragics

He says ... They’re still learning, growing, fumbling, developing.

They’re not elite. They’re kids ❤️🏐

Slapping the word ELITE on a primary schooler, doesn't build confidence, it builds pressure.

It creates comparison. Division. Expectation.

And for what?

So we can fast-track a dream they’re still too young to even understand?

Here’s what matters more at this age 👇
✅ Do they love playing?
✅ Are they a good teammate?
✅ Are they having fun?
✅ Are they learning how to fail, grow and try again?

Skills can be developed.

Character can’t be rushed.

The best athletes?

They’re often the late bloomers.

The ones who weren’t the best at 12, but kept showing up at 13, 15, 17.

So let’s stop trying to sort, rank and crown 'the next big thing.'

Let them fall in love with the game first.

Let them play. Mess up. Be a kid.

Because that’s how we build players who stay and stay in love with the sport 💖

As a new netball Mum I'm learning this quickly by the coaches who have been in this game a long time.

My daughter is obsessed with netball now but will she be at 13??

Let's label our girls empowered, resilient, kind, persistent, courageous ... this will help them a lot more, than calling them 'elite' so early on 👊

Thanks @effortlessswimming for sharing!

Hi everyone!
I'm running a webinar tomorrow evening 8.30pm GMT for anyone interested in seeing how we want to help elite gymnasts when they retire.
I’ve interviewed over 100 Ex- Elite gymnasts and athletes. A common theme in these conversations is the feeling of being lost, lonely and unconfident after retirement, with little guidance.
I've also been through it myself as an ex GB gymnast and it took me years to get to grip with understanding it all.
But they really have Trained to Succeed and do have amazing skills to take forward
If this is of interest to you or for any gymnasts you know, please feel free to DM me with your email and I'll send you the link. Please feel free to share too.
