A fixture with plenty of history behind it 🙌 Over the years, a number of players have represented BOTH clubs, including our Head Coach Sammy Knott who wore the East Thurrock shirt during his playing days! Our Head of Football Jay Devereux was Assistant Manager there for 7 years and of course…we can’t forget The Caretaker Spencer Owen ’s legendary “East Thurrock United FC” YouTube series back in 2013! 🥹

Hashtag announce appointment of 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐂𝐚𝐫𝐞𝐭𝐚𝐤𝐞𝐫 🧹 Spencer Owen

Today as part of our summer reshuffle, we can announce the appointment of our founder Spencer Carmichael-Brown as The Caretaker. This is a new role designed to help guide our club into our next era in a period of significant change and new priorities.

As announced earlier in the summer, we won’t have a Men’s First Team ‘Manager’ this season. Sammy Knott will be our First Team Head Coach and responsible for football performance, whilst working closely in partnership with The Caretaker on recruitment. The Caretaker role will allow our founder to ensure our new philosophy is properly rolled out and understood, acting as a bridge between the football and content departments. The role will see Spencer personally deliver various new innovations throughout the season, all designed to bring the fans closer to the action, maximising entertainment, enjoyment and experience.

Spencer will step into this new role with immediate effect. As part of this reshuffle we can also announce that Joe Gorman will be leaving his role as CEO. Joe was brought in following his time as CEO at then League One Exeter City with clear priorities that included finding Hashtag a permanent home, overseeing the subsequent upgrading of facilities at the new ground and the creation of new in-house commercial operation. We are very happy that all of this has been delivered and wish Joe the best in his new role as part of an ambitious Worthing FC project.

Please welcome back to the Tags versatile defender Joe Debell who rejoins the club, following back-to-back promotions to step 3 with Stanway Rovers 👏

Many fans will remember Debell for one of the fastest goals in Hashtag history back in the 2020/21 season, or for his scooter flipping antics in Jersey, but he’s back with the club to make more memories after a couple of fantastic seasons at the heart of Stanway’s defence! 🙌

Another 𝗥𝗘𝗧𝗨𝗥𝗡𝗘𝗥𝗦 𝗥𝗘𝗜𝗦𝗦𝗨𝗘 that sees the team strengthened for the upcoming campaign… All focus now shifts to our 𝗙𝗜𝗥𝗦𝗧 𝗟👀𝗞 invitational this coming Saturday at the Techsoc.com stadium! Free tickets available via the link in our bio 🎟️
