This week is National Customer Service Week, and it is a good moment to reflect on something we care about all year round: looking after our clients properly.

Great building work is about more than the finished structure. It is about clear communication, turning up when we say we will, keeping sites clean and tidy, and treating every property with respect from the first conversation to the final handover.

Much of our work comes from repeat clients and word of mouth, which tells us we are getting it right. Estate managers, farmers, businesses and private clients keep coming back because they trust us to do what we say.

What does the boss get up to at the weekends? 🎃

When he's not on site with the J H Vaudrey & Son team, Freddy Vaudrey can be found at Frog's Farm in Thwaite, near Eye, where around 50,000 pumpkins have thrived despite one of the hottest summers on record.

Last week BBC News paid a visit to find out how. Freddy credits the farm's reservoir, which stores surplus winter water to keep the crops irrigated through the dry summer months. In his words, "it really was key this year."

With so many growers struggling after the heatwaves, it's a real reminder of how much good planning and the right infrastructure matter on the land.

Late summer is one of the best windows of the year for major structural work.

A good industrial floor starts long before the concrete arrives.

On this project we prepared, poured and finished a new concrete floor for an industrial building. Careful preparation of the sub-base, an accurate pour and a properly power-floated finish all combine to create a surface that is level, hard-wearing and ready for heavy use from day one.

A floor like this takes daily traffic, plant and loading for decades, so getting it right at every stage matters. Our team manages the fullprocess from groundworks through to the finished slab.

In heritage construction, every element matters, right down to the sole plate.

At J H Vaudrey & Son, we restore listed and period buildings using traditional techniques that echo the original workmanship. On a recent project we replaced the oak sole plate of a 15th century Suffolk longhouse with new green oak, crafted and fitted the way it would have been centuries ago. A solution designed to last another 500 years.

Preserving these buildings keeps an important part of our region's history alive, so it can be admired and enjoyed for generations to come.
