The objective was five strict RMU πͺπ» four clean reps in this set by back in Motus Strength a couple of years ago π€π» this athlete is in his 50s ππΌ and making a very hard set look comfortable π #50+
If youβre first strict RMU looks like this ππ»youβve trained well πͺπ» full control throughout πͺπ» some say that the muscle up is little more than a party π trick and has little value as a conditioning objective π§ I disagree, to achieve success and complete the skill to this standard ππ» generally requires six weeks to six months of general strength work plus specific technical training πͺπ» success indicates the fulfilment of a lengthy and committed training program πͺπ» pull up mechanics, dip mechanics, shoulder stability and strength, grip strength, arm strengthβ¦ will all be developed during the process πͺπ» in addition β‘οΈ bodyweight is also a key factor so body fat reduction will often be required concurrent to the strength & conditioning ππ» get in touch to discuss getting started β i have availability in London and Hertford β i specialise in working with senior (masters age) clients (40-60) π muscle up success is always an objective π€π»
Sometimes we need to isolate movements to protect vulnerable areas during the loading and conditioning process ππ» when a spine is intolerant to extension or any movement for that matter, strategies that prevent the spine from compensating are useful ππ» strength through a full range of hip extension is an important functional attribute - failure for the hip to extend, either due to weakness or structural issue will lead to excessive lower back extension- this can lead to overuse problems and LBP π’ setting up the isolated hip extension as in the vid ππ» is one way to isolate hip extension, the contra lateral flexed hip, slightly flexed spine and braced hold onto the table all assist ππ» reps or isometric holds can be employed in this position as can a bent knee option for the moving leg ππ» if you check the mri image ππ» youβll get an idea of the spine involved and why Iβm taking precautions π§ individualised movement strategies and loading are often the key to rehabilitate difficult cases like this one ππ»

Last few workouts before we get burned π₯΅ by the fires π₯ of the apocalypse π₯΅ donβt worry too much everyone π if the Tour Du France cyclists can climb the Galibier, Croix de fer and the Alpe dβhuez π΄ in one day with temperatures over 37 degrees π₯΅ then I think weβll be ok in our gyms garages and paddling pools π Crew Calisthenics is back on Thursday - check out my website on the Crew page for more info π€π»
