What’s on at Still Space Hull this October?

We’re moving into cosy season… and I truly believe Still Space was made for this time of year

Blankets out
Lights down

A little space away from ordinary life to breathe, soften and settle back into yourself 💗

October will see me out and about quite a bit too, sharing my work at two menopause events and the lovely wellness event at Trinity Market (more on those soon 👀)
but there are still plenty of ways to find a little space with me this month.

✨ Unwind Breathwork
Two gentle Tuesday evenings to release the day, breathe and land back into yourself before heading home.

🌿 Wonder Walk
Our monthly wander through Hull… no need to go far in search of wonder. We’ll see what we notice along the way

⭐ Quiet Space
Two free drop-in afternoons for tea, colouring, quiet, resting or simply being. One happens to fall on Menopause
Awareness Day too… perhaps a particularly good day to remember that rest counts (but don’t let that stop you asking me any burning Menopause questions)

☕ Ladies Who Latte
Connection, conversation and women supporting women in business

💗 And our longer monthly Breathwork:
I Wonder What I’m Bringing Home…

A chance to gather, nourish and notice what you want to carry home with you as we move further into autumn.

Some things need booking, some are completely free and you can simply come along

Swipe through for all the details…

Come in
Get cosy
Grab a blanket

Take a little time outside the noise of ordinary life and return to it perhaps feeling a little more like you

Carly 💗

I’ve noticed that people often arrive at my breathwork sessions carrying questions…

Sometimes they’re big
Sometimes they’re little wonderings that have been quietly sitting in the background.

I welcome all of them

Curiosity is kind of the point around here ☺️

But this Sunday, I’m interested in what happens when we give those questions some space without rushing towards an answer…

To let them arise
Let them land
Breathe with them for a while

Maybe something becomes clearer?
Maybe we’re simply a little more comfortable with not knowing yet?

We’ll see 👀

There’s a lot I used to struggle with around change

I spent a long time wishing everything would just stay the same ... but there’s something about life these last few years that has me getting excited about living differently

Perhaps it’s because my perspective has changed

To me change used to feel sudden... big.... destabilising ... and yes I’ve experienced my fair share of surprises welcome and otherwise

But I think learning to breathe with it all has changed how I meet these things

Don’t get me wrong I am not going to pretend I have it all figured out or that no one ever ruffles my feathers... there’s still plenty of things that have me holding my breath for a moment or two

So what’s the difference?

Well... from my experience as a coach and breathwork facilitator (and now teacher eep) I’d say I just don’t get stuck there like I used

All these things tend to move through a little more easily ...

Does that mean I’m coasting on easy street?

Absolutely not... I’d say it’s made me a lot braver, which brings with it a whole other set of challenges (good job I have a few tools in my kit to support)

This week noticing the light changing in the studio, the colour of the trees starting to turn... it has really brought home to me how change just doesn’t need to be sudden or big

It’s the little things over time that create the biggest shifts.. and everything has its season

And

If you’re able to meet these things with curiosity ... well that’s a whole new level

So if you’re navigating a lot of changes lately, I hope this helps you breathe a little easier (or at least get a little curious)

And if you’d like some support with that.. maybe you’d like to join my next Breath-workshop “I Wonder What Happens If…?”

Do you ever get the urge to shake things up and change everything?

Yeah… that got me too 😂

Before today’s Wonder Walk, I caught myself wondering whether we should take a different route.
Maybe we’ve done this one enough

Maybe people will get bored.
Maybe we need somewhere new…

There I go nearly missing the entire point of a Wonder Walk 😂

Because wonder isn’t about constantly chasing new experiences.
This came to me as a way to slow down enough to notice what’s already here… and allowing curiosity to show me what else might be possible

So we took our usual route

And somehow ended up below deck on a boat…
wandering into a Yellow Day exhibition…
watching a play we hadn’t planned to see
and picking up people along the way

We actually finished with more people than we started with 😂

Amongst the wackiness were the quieter bits too.

Pigeons and their families
Conversations
Pauses
Collective wondering that doesn’t really translate into a photo

What a good reminder for me

When life starts feeling a bit samey, perhaps I don’t always need to change everything

Perhaps I just need to shift how available I am to what’s already here

Wonder doesn’t necessarily change what’s in front of us…
But it might just make us more available to life 💗✨

I brought my fluffy mushroom blanket to a storytelling workshop today 🍄

It’s soft, cosy, covered in woodland mushrooms, and completely mine.

I have plenty of blankets for breathwork at Still Space Hull, but I don’t share this one... it’s just for me

The woodland scene reminds me of mycelium, the hidden network beneath a forest, connecting and supporting life.

But the message I take from the mycelium is that connection doesn’t erase individuality.

The mushroom is still a mushroom
The tree is still a tree
The flower still gets to be itself

They belong to something bigger without becoming the same.

I think I’m still learning that.

For a long time, belonging for me would mean adapting myself to the room
Becoming easier to understand
Quieter in some places.

More useful in others. Sometimes abandoning parts of myself because fitting in felt safer than standing apart.

As I walk my midlife path, a different question keeps emerging:

What if I don’t have to choose between belonging and being wholly myself?

Maybe connection isn’t about disappearing into the collective.

Maybe it’s being able to bring my whole self into relationship with other people, community and life while still knowing what is mine.

My choices
My needs
My edges
My own particular way of being in the world.

And perhaps the right connections are the ones that give us enough space to become more recognisable to ourselves.

I can belong as an individual too.

And I’m curious about what becomes possible when we stop asking “How do I fit?” and start wondering:

“Where can I be fully myself and still belong?” 💗

Meet Tato 🥔

They are be joining me for Sunday’s Wonder Walk and I’ve just been taking them through their Wonder walk training

So far they’ve contemplated Princes Quay, phoned home, spent a moment with willow tree and narrowly avoided a potentially troubling encounter in a shop… 👀😂

I wonder what we’ll find on Sunday?

I guess we’ll just have to see

No destination to rush towards

Just a couple of hours to wander, notice, get curious and see what catches our attention.

We’ll finish up at Still Space Hull for a cuppa and a chat

✨ Sunday 13th September
🌿 10am–12 noon
📍 Start Trinity Square, Hull

Come and wonder with us 💗

If you’d like to come ask me for the WhatsApp group link and I’ll send it over 😊

First week of September done 💗

I’ve been preparing I Wonder What I’m Noticing, the first of my September Breath workshops, and as so often happens, the questions I’m preparing for everybody else have a habit of showing up in my own life too.

You’d think I’d be used to this by now.

I’m not 😂

It’s been a pretty full week.

I officially completed my two-year Breathwork Teacher training 🎓

I’ve had strength clients through the doors, and Cuddle Therapy is moving from something I’ve been learning into something people are actually booking

My lovely breathwork friend Laura came to visit (yay),
I joined Rainbow Coffee Mornings 🏳️‍🌈 for their 1st anniversary… the same week I’ve been celebrating a year of Still Space Hull 💗

and I’ve been gathering elderberries and making medicine again (thanks Bryony Allwood Herbalist

Oh, and I nipped to the shops and got intercepted by Freedom Festival.

Because Hull 😂

Somewhere amongst all of that, I’ve been noticing.

It’s one reason I breathe my own workshops before sharing them. I don’t want to deliver something I’ve only thought about. I want to experience the questions too.

Breathwork has become one way I stay connected to myself and the life happening around me.

Not because every breath reveals some special hidden message.

Sometimes a breath is just a breath.

But it gives me somewhere to practise paying attention.

To notice when I’m tired. When I’m full. When something feels good. When I’ve had enough. When I want more. When something has changed.

And perhaps most importantly, to remember that noticing doesn’t create an obligation to act immediately

I’m practising acknowledging my noticings without turning away or rushing to do something about them.

Sometimes the response is obvious.

Sometimes it needs a little space.

So perhaps alongside making elderberry medicine this week, I’ve been taking a little of my own medicine too. 🌿

Gathering. Noticing. Responding.

Allowing myself to feel the fullness of the week rather than rushing towards the next thing

Although I’ll still interrupt all this self-reflection to watch a parade when one appears outside my door.

Why wouldn’t I? 😂💗

What are you noticing this week?

New Breathwork… I wonder what I’m noticing…

September has a way of arriving with a bit of a LET’S GET BACK TO IT energy 😅

Back to work.
Back to school.
Back to routines.

And with summer drawing to a close, it can be very easy to get swept straight into whatever comes next (I’m not saying the words right now 😆)

But perhaps, before we do that, there’s some value in stopping for a moment.

Take a breath…

And notice what’s actually here

I Wonder What I’m Noticing is a low-pressure breathwork space to do exactly that.

There’s nothing you need to figure out. No particular breakthrough we’re aiming for.
And you certainly don’t need to arrive knowing what you need.

Through conscious Breathwork styles, we’ll create some space to become a little more present with your whole self… your thoughts, your body, your feelings, the busy bits, the quiet bits… whatever happens to be there.

Because sometimes when we stop rushing towards the next thing, we notice something we couldn’t hear amongst all the noise.

Maybe you need rest
Maybe something is stirring
Maybe you leave with a little more clarity or inspiration

Or maybe you simply spend two hours breathing and being with yourself.

All of those are welcome.

And whatever comes next, perhaps a little more of you gets to come along for the ride too 💗

I Wonder What I’m Noticing
Sunday 6th September
10am–12pm
Still Space Hull, HU1 2LJ

There are still a few spaces available. You can book yours through the link in my profile.

Come breathe, rest, notice… and see what you find

A year and a day ago, I opened the doors to Still Space Hull.

And I have to say, I really didn’t expect life to turn out like this.

In the best possible way. 💗

The photo I’m sharing with this post was taken just over two and a half years ago, as I was walking into my very first in-person Breathwork session.

I remember the nervous energy.

I had absolutely no idea what I was walking into.

And certainly no idea what that first session would eventually lead to.

Because yesterday , I got to celebrate officially qualifying as a Breathwork Teacher. 🎓

And yes, I’m incredibly proud of that achievement.

But the qualification itself doesn’t come close to capturing what Breathwork has brought into my life.

The changes.

The people I’ve met.

The friendships and connections that have grown around it.

The experiences I’ve had.

The things I’ve learned about myself.

And perhaps even some of the audacity required to think…

Maybe I could open my own studio.

Apparently I could. 😂

A year and a day later, I’m sitting inside that very studio, qualified not only to facilitate Breathwork, but to begin guiding people who want to explore the breath more deeply themselves… including those who may eventually feel called to guide others.

Which feels a little bit wild when I look at the woman in that photograph.

She wasn’t trying to become a Breathwork Teacher.

She was just curious enough to walk into the room.

Perhaps that’s why I still love beginning there.

You don’t need to know where exploring your breath might take you.

You can simply begin by noticing it.

And if you’re feeling that little pull to explore your own relationship with breath (whether that’s for yourself or because you’re wondering where it might lead) I’d love to hear from you.

DM me BREATHE and we can have a chat. 💗

September at Still Space Hull 🍂

September can come with a lot of back to it energy.

Back to school.
Back to work.
Back to routines.

Back to whatever we were doing before summer happened 😅

But perhaps we don’t have to rush straight back in

Maybe there’s something to be said for taking a moment to notice where we are first.

What’s changed?
What’s stayed the same?
What have we enjoyed?
What are we carrying with us?

And what happens if we get a little curious about what comes next?
That feels like the thread running through September at Still Space Hull

🌿 Unwind returns on the 1st and 15th: an hour of gentle restorative Breathwork and a little space to come down from the day

✨ This month there are two I Wonder... Breathworks.
I Wonder What I’m Noticing on the 6th: space to pause, breathe and notice what’s here after a busy summer
And I Wonder What Happens If...? on the 27th: a playful invitation to stay with the questions a little longer and see where curiosity might take us

☕ Ladies Who Latte is back after its summer break, bringing local women in business together over a brew (21st September)

💭 Wonder Walk returns for another slow wander around Hull, making time for conversation, curiosity and whatever catches our attention along the way

💗 And there’ll be more Quiet Space too… somewhere to simply come and be for a while.

September doesn’t have to just be about “getting back on track”

Perhaps you can arrive first.
Take a look around.
Catch your breath.

And then wonder where we might go from here.

I’d love to welcome you along
There’s space for you here 💗
