Long time rivals Drum and Swanfield met on Costello where rain led to frequent errors but also some quality football. Unfortunately for Swanfield most of the good stuff came from Drum. Any sense of carrying forward their excellent form from last week was immediately dismissed when Drum opened the scoring in the first minute when flimsy defence play allowed Drum to drive forward and score with a cracking drive. Before Swanfield could get out of first gear Drum had added 2 more well taken goals. Swanfield responded when Joe Wood drove towards the byline before pulling the ball back for Ollie Hairsine to crisply finish. There followed a period of play where both teams had chances, Wood hitting the bar for Swanfield before Drum, replicating the move from Swanfield’s goal, the cross being side footed home for a 4-1 half time lead. Substitutions for Swanfield gave some impetus to the away team but to no avail and Drum cut through the tiring Swanfield defence to twice open up and score making it 6-1. A bleak scoreline for Swanfield was made slightly more palatable when substitute Mo Barry added a second goal. With spirits up Swanfield were awarded a penalty only for the Drum keeper to make a very good save. Although Swanfield battled it was Drum who scored the final goal for an emphatic 7-2 win.

Swanfield entertained LIV Supplies in the first league fixture of the Sunday Premier League on the grass pitch at Hull University and were quickly into their stride opening up a 4 goal lead within 15 minutes with well taken goals from Ette Ekomobong, Joe Wood and two from Aminu Mohamad who was making his debut. Despite this LIV we’re creating plenty of chances and pulled two goals back before half time. At the beginnng of the second half there were chances at both ends with many near misses. Swanfield eventually got back into scoring mode with Wood, Ollie Hairsine and Mohamad adding to the tally. LIV pulled one goal back with a remarkable strike from within their own half before Joe Wood scored his fourth with an excellent strike from a free kick and Nav Murali added a ninth. LIV added a fourth when Keane Parsons outstripped the Swanfield defence to score. Final score 9-4. A big shout out to Alex Goldberg who made an impressive debut for Swanfield.

Entertaining AFC Cottingham with a much changed team from last week Swanfield settled down quickly on the 3G pitch at Hull University. Having a number of forward options at their disposal and with Cottingham choosing to start with 3 at the back oceans of space appeared on Swanfield’s attacking left flank which Joe Wood greedily exploited, scoring a hat-trick within 20 minutes. Aminu Mohamad added a fourth before Wood scored again before half-time. Shortly after half time Wood and Ollie Hairsine departed, off to Leeds for Rovers game but not before setting up Charles Amadi for a headed sixth goal. Cottingham responded by forcing Jake Jory into a fine save, before their efforts were rewarded with a well taken goal. As the game wore on the impressive work rate of Aminu was rewarded with two more goals following assists from Nav Murali, and Joe Arundell also got on the score sheet with a low left foot drive.
Good luck to Cottingham in the forthcoming season.

For our 2nd preseason game Swanfield travelled to Preston United AFC to play a pre-season game in sweltering hot conditioned. Preston didn’t have a full squad available and whilst Swanfield were also missing some players they quickly got into their stride with the front three of Gibbs, Wood and Heath getting on the first half scoresheet sharing seven goals. Preston threatened on occasions twice, pe***ng Swanfield back. Able to make a number of substitutions at half time Swanfield added to their score at regular intervals with Wood and Heath among the goals again with debutant Alex Goldberg adding two more and Charlie Matchett scoring with a header, capping off a great team peformance. Preston’s keeper also denied Aminu Mohamad at least 5 times, and despite the final scoreline of 15-2, he should feel pleased with his performance.
