This week we travel to Malet Lambert School to take on newly promoted Malet Vikings. This is likely to be another tough game where AFC Willerby will have to at their best to get the 3 points on offer. Manager Dan Holgate still does not have a fully fit squad to call upon, with Lee Cooper still not fit. Craig Kirk has now been added to to injury list as well after cracking 2 ribs in the last game. Holgate does however welcome back to this weeks squad Danny Hairsine and Rich Guthrie and new signing Adam Newlove. Plus who knows Ricky Scott may even make an appearance again this week. AFC Willerby B 6 St Peter’s 3.

In the Willerby Snooker Club derby, it was AFC Willerby who hold the bragging right’s.

The game was switched to Sirius Academy, due to Wolfreton being unavailable this week.

There was a last minute shuffle of the side, which was enforced due to Captain Duffield not getting there until after kick off.
The game kicked off and it was apparent from the off, that Peter’s was a more physical side. Especially with their height advantage.
The first 20 minutes and both sides was knocking the ball around nicely, with not much incident. Then a cross into the box found the Peter’s Winger unmarked in the box to place a header past Daniels in goal.
St Peter’s game plan was to turn the Willerby back 4 with balls over the top for their pacey forward to chase. This was how their second goal came about, with the on rushing attacker winning a 50/50 with Daniels to place the ball into an empty net.
Changes was made and onto the pitch came captain fantastic Duffield to shore up the back line, and Edwards to add pace to the right wing. Alongside a formation change to a good old 4 4 2.
This proved to be the catalyst for willerby to get back into the game. 5 minutes of the half left and Edwards played a delicious ball for the onrushing Hartley to run onto. Then with calm and composure he played it across the box for Nuttal to finish high into the net. Game on.
That was how the half finished.
A couple more changes at halftime and on came Scott and Trigger to control the middle.
What a luxury it is for Holgate to have that quality at his disposal on the Bench.
The pressure told straight away as more excellent play found Edwards in space, who crossed into the box, for the Peter’s defence to place the ball in their own net.
Then 5 minutes later , Nuttall got his second of the day as he knocked it past the onrushing keeper to find the correct of the net from the angle.
3 soon became 4 when more excellent wing and forward work allowed for Trigger to finish off the move.
Then came 5 when Rob Kennington finished smartly.
To finish off the Willerby scoring Leachy produced and absolute rocket into the top corner, on the volley. What a goal.
3 minutes from time Peter’s pulled a goal back but it was already game over.
This win gets the season back on track and Willerby travel to Malet on the 6th October.

AFC WILLERBY B vrs ST PETERS VETS

This will be another tough test especially after St Peter’s have recruited heavily over the close season.

AFC Willerby are looking for their first win of the season, with a strong 17. They will be hopeful that they can hold on for the Win this time.

Kick off 2pm at Sirius West.

Goole Utd vets 5 AFC Willerby B 5
Definitely a game of two halves today, which is probably the most cliche saying there is.

Willerby traveled to Goole to kick off their league campaign in division 2. Following on from a respectable 3rd place finish last season, much is expected from the team.

Willerby started very well indeed and they was 0-2 up within 10 minutes. The first came from a driven ball by Duffy, which found the on running Leachy, who hit an unstoppable shot on the angle into the roof of the net. The ball from Duffy was like an Alexander-Arnold pass. The finish was just as impressive.
The 2nd was not quite as impressive. It was John wells ball into the box that Rob Kennington failed to make contact with that found its way into a the goole net.
After 25 minutes it was 0-3, after Nuttal found the back of the net. A superb Rob Kennington through ball and Nuttal did the rest.
On 35 minutes the Goole keeper played the ball perfectly off leachy, who was closing down to Willerby a 0-4 lead and what seemed like control of the match.
5 minutes from time though the deficit was reduced when the man mountain Goole had brought on, shrugged off 2 challenges and hit a curling shot from 25 yards out into the top corner, with the outside of his foot.
That’s was how the half finished.
The second half began and Willerby never seemed to get going. What had worked for 35 minutes, never got repeated in the 2nd half. Goole pressed and never gave up. They struck 3 more goals get level with 10 minutes to go. Then with 5 minutes left, willerby scored their 5th through Nuttall with his 2nd. Surely that was the end of scoring . To the credit of Goole they came again and they was rewarded when Willerby failed to clear their lines and they scored the leveller again.
A great game for the neutrals but definitely not for the management.
We go again in 2 weeks at home to St Peter’s

This Sunday is the first league game of the season. We travel to Goole which will be a tough test considering they have just come down from division one. We have a few missing due to injury or other commitments, but we have got a strong 17 travelling.
