Sproatley Hawks U9’s

Today’s MOM was…………..our midfield magician No. 9 Archie McAllister!!

With a new number and the confidence new boots bring you Archie was at his creative best today.

He caused constant problems for the opposition defence , whether that was with his silky dribbling or his penetrative passing to set up teammates. Whilst also capping off his performance with a couple of coolly taken goals.

Add all that to the fact he played with his usual hard work and determination, working tirelessly up and down the pitch it was a great start to the new season for Archie.

The Hawks under 9 pre season kicked off with a last minute friendly vs East Riding Blacks this morning.

Having near on a month off football and playing on an unfamiliar pitch size it took the lads the first 10 minutes to shake the cobwebs off.

They soon find their rhythm playing some lovely football taking full advantage of the wider pitch and scoring some brilliantly taken goals whilst defending resolutely when up against a couple of dangerous opposition players.

Both teams decided with it being a friendly to play 3 x 20 minute games to give the boys plenty of game time.

This also gave the lads the opportunity to play in some different positions and formations.

Despite the warm weather and lack of match fitness, all the lads didn’t stop working hard throughout the full morning resulting in some very tired, sweaty players by the end of things.

Overall it was 3 good, competitive games played in the right spirit. All the best to East Riding Blacks for the new season.

The boys rounded off their U8 season last weekend with a day at the Beach as we participated in East Coach Soccer Beach Tournament. 😎

After a long, demanding season the day was treated as a day at the beach with a bit of football thrown in for good measure.

Having never played beach football the boys adapted well to the different conditions and style of play, finishing the group stage top of the group.

Once again it was great to see every player in the team contributing to the performances. Whether that be with some ice cool finishes, creative build up play or resolute defending and goalkeeping. 👏🏻⚽️

So into the knock out stages we went and after a long break in between games the boys were caught a little cold conceding a couple of early goals and despite regaining their composure and staging a fight back we was on the wrong end of a 4-3 result. 🙈

That disappointment was soon forgotten about as all the lads decided there was only one way to cool off with a dip in the sea together. 💪🏻🥶

On Friday the Hawks had their last training session of the season.

With it being a red hot night and everyone in a relaxed mood in preparation for the end of season break it called for only one thing………a WATER FIGHT!!

The lads took on the parents in a series of football related challenges with the losers getting a soaking!!

Over the weekend the boys took part in the Hedon tournament at a very hot and sunny Eastside Sports Ground.

Despite the sweltering weather the boys tireless work rate and intensity saw them finish the group stage winning every game and only conceding 1 goal. All whilst playing some lovely flowing football and scoring a number of well taken goals.

Into the knockout stage we went and after a long break and the weather starting to take its toll on the lads an unusually flat performance saw the boys progress into the semi’s knowing improvements needed to be made.

In the semi’s we faced a team we’d previously beat 2-0 in the group stage but after conceding an early goal the boys faced an uphill task to progress. Despite putting intense pressure on the opponents goal we just couldn’t find that elusive equaliser.

Finishing the tournament having played 7, won 6 and only conceding 2 goals yet still not making the final just shows how ‘unfair’ tournament, short games can be.

Overall the lads gave a great impression of themselves and how we ask them to play football. One last beach tournament and then a well deserved break for the summer.

Last weekend we held the Hawks end of season presentation at the newly refurbished Sproatley Pavilion.

This was to celebrate two great phases in Group 1 and our recent trip to Holland. With having such a well rounded squad and the fact all the lads have contributed massively to the teams continuous development, it was only right that the every lad was recognised for their efforts over the season.

All the lads have made great improvements in different and their own ways over the season which can be especially difficult playing in such an intense environment every week but they’ve all stepped up to the challenge. 💪🏻

Above all else the bond these lads have created and continue to develop with each other is brilliant to see with them all an absolute credit to themselves and their parents! 👏🏻

In preparation for playing in Holland next weekend last night the lads took on a U9’s team in 7v7 format.

Unphased by the change in format or much bigger pitch the boys flew out the traps racing into a 3 goal lead with some lovely flowing football and determined work to close and press the opposition defence at every opportunity. As the first quarter wore on the opposition started to get a foothold in the game grabbing a goal back themselves after a bouncing ball in the box wasn’t cleared.

Into the second quarter and the lads carried on where they left off with them exploiting the space 7v7 gives you compared to 5v5 and scoring a couple more goals including a brilliant solo effort right on the stroke of half time.

The second half gave us the opportunity to play some of the lads in unfamiliar positions whilst still staying disciplined in our overall team shape. Despite the changes the boys were still creating a number of chances with the opposition keeper making a string of fine saves to keep the quarter goalless.

With us only having 1 sub tired legs started to show in the last quarter, when a lapse of concentration saw the boys concede a goal. However that seemed to spur the hawks on has they refocused and again stepped things up scoring another well worked team goal.

Overall it was a brilliant team performance especially considering it was the first time a number of the lads have played 7v7. What was really impressive was how well the boys used their bodies against bigger players and kept their overall positional shape throughout the game.

Although the season might of finished some of the boys have been keeping up there match fitness taking part in a number of junior runs, really pushing themselves and showing great determination!! 💪🏻 🏃‍♂️‍➡️

One of the lads even helped our friends Barham who were short of players out at a tournament over the weekend, reaching the final and playing some great football. 👏🏻

Preparations for our trip to Holland next weekend take a step up this week as the lads take on a U9 team and playing in 7 a side format. To get them used to the challenge they’ll be facing in both the tournaments they’ll be participating in whilst in Holland. 🇳🇱 ⚽️

This weeks MOM was…………….our electrolyte king, No. 18 Isaac Arro!!!

After a few quiet weeks for Isaac where he’s struggled for confidence in front of goal, he came back with a bang today!

We asked him to focus on staying further up the pitch and pressing the opposition defence today and he was a constant menace to them, often getting the better of much bigger players and causing them real problems. 💪🏻

Even after scoring a freak OG which could have really knocked his confidence, he reacted brilliantly scoring 2 clinically taken goals and being unlucky to add a couple more to his account. 🚀⚽️
