Intent. Drives. Adaptation.

Two athletes can follow the exact same programme, perform the same exercises with same prescriptions but walk away with a completely different set of results.

Why?

Intent.

The athlete who understands the purpose behind the lift, listens to coaching cues and has intent behind each rep is going to get far more from that programme compared to an athletes who goes through the motions.

I’ve seen in time and time again. Some of the best athletes I’ve coached aren’t necessarily the strongest or most naturally gifted, they’re the ones who listen and apply cues and have intent behind everything they do.

A programme simply gives you the framework, how you execute it determines what you get out from it.

I’m opening up a couple of coaching spots for athletes who have just started their off-season and want to make the most out of it.

DM me ‘off season’ and let’s have a chat🤝

Uk heatwave ☀️ + Athletes with poor hydration 💧 = awful performance 🥵🪫

If you’ve got a game/training session this weekend, don’t let dehydration be the reason your performance drops.

If I were an athlete looking to implement plyometrics into my programme, this is exactly where I’d start 🤝

Sprinting is still the best plyometric exercise for athletes, but these drills will help you build the foundation first⚡️

1. Pogo hops - Ankle stiffness and reactive strength - 2 x 20

2. Line hops - Coordination and low-level elastic work - 2 x 20

3. Low box jumps- Force production - 2 x 5

4. CMJ - Rate of Force Development (RFD) - 2 x 5

5. Depth drops - Force absorption and landing mechanics - 2 x 5

6. Snap downs - Force absorption and landing mechanics - 2 x 5

Not to say that they don’t have their place but your ladder drills really aren’t developing agility🤷🏽‍♂️😂 they’re good in a warm-up to wake up the nervous system but lack a lot of the key agility principles.

So how do develop agility for contact sports athletes?

Simple. These 3 training modalities.

1. Plyometrics and eccentric strength - to change direction quickly, athletes need strong tendons and the ability to absorb and redirect force.

2. Reactive agility drills - these bridge the gap between sprinting drills and real game-like scenarios where athletes must make split-second decisions (what our ‘favourite’ ladder drills lack).

3. Sensory cues - field sports are often chaotic, meaning that physical qualities aren’t the only qualities that contribute to agility. Sensory skills can help an athlete perceive, interpret and react to sensory information under pressure.

Want agility that actually transfers over to your sport? I’m currently taking on a small group or serious athletes🤝 drop me a DM for more information⚡️
