Two massive wins for the club v Nostell St Oswald CC. 50s for Pubudu Madhawa Dasanayaka and Matthew Lufc Stnes and for wickets each for Dipendra Malla Thakuri, Kokila Gomez & Anthony Glover.

Not much to write home about this week so it will be a short report.
After our heroics from the previous week beating top of the table, we were hoping to kick on.
However on a wet rainy day and a very slow wicket. We were simply outplayed in all departments. No excuses, we just weren't good enough on the day.
One bright moment on the day was young Colby Larrington showing maturity and resilience on a wicket that got majority of our batters out with deliveries that kept low. Young Colby didn't fall victim and finished unbeaten on 17.

We won't talk about the bowling but to be fair to our bowlers conditions had got far worse to bowl on, as the umpire was determined to keep us out in the rain.

We move on to our last home game of the season now against Nostell hoping to finish on a high down at Banks Garth

Knottingley 1st XI vs Askern 1st XI: The Sky Delivers Its Verdict

I have seen storms swallow mountains. I have seen thunder split the black sky over Midgard and I have seen men run from it. What I saw at Knottingley was more interesting.

Askern came needing victory to seize the league title. They wanted the match played, and Knottingley did not flinch from it. The hour was moved forward so the contest might be given every chance to run its full course. That is worth marking. A lesser side would have let the clouds do their arguing for them.

Knottingley batted first on a pitch soaked through and behaving badly, the ball spitting and skidding by turns. Askern bowled with real control. The Knottingley batsmen struck cleanly and often beautifully, but wickets fell at intervals too regular to survive, and at 76 for 7 the innings teetering on the edge.

Then Harvey and Kokila came together for the eighth wicket and showed more resistance. They built, they endured, they dragged the total out of the mud and set it on solid ground. When the innings closed Knottingley had 150. On that surface, on that day, it was worth far more than the number suggests.

The sky darkened further. There was a long wait before Askern could begin, because rain does not negotiate. When play resumed their target was revised to 128 from 31 overs.

They chased it superbly. That must be said without qualification. Askern batted with clarity and control while the Knottingley bowlers wrestled with a ball that would not sit in the hand. The spinners had nothing to grip and nothing to turn. Every over was an act of will rather than skill, and not one man asked to leave the field. They kept going because that is what you do when the elements are against you and the alternative is surrender.

Then the umpires looked at the ground, judged it unfit, and called the match. Askern were 8 runs short.

Eight. Two swings of the bat. Close enough to touch and far enough not to win.

Their players raged at the injustice of it, and I understand rage better than most. But storms are not malice. Rain falls on both sets of whites, both sets of hands, both sets of ambitions. Knottingley stood in exactly the same weather all afternoon and made no appeal to fairness, because they had already given the game every hour and every chance they could offer it.

The league title waited on 8 runs and the weather said no.

🏏 WHAT A DAY AT BANKS GARTH! 🏏

This Sunday saw us host our fundraising day at Banks Garth, with a KTCC XI taking on a Wakefield Councillors XI.

With a little bit of “help” for the Councillors’ XI 👀😂, the match somehow ended in a TIE! 🤝🏏

There was plenty of fun both on and off the pitch throughout the day!

A massive shout-out to Cllr William Garbutt for all his help and support in organising the day. A huge thank you also goes to Councillor Matthew Pinder for captaining the Councillors XI, and to every councillor who gave up their time to take part and support the event. 👏

We’d also like to say a massive THANK YOU to everyone who donated raffle prizes, bought tickets, came along to participate or spectate, helped in the tea rooms, worked behind the scenes or supported the day in any way.

Every single contribution was massively appreciated by everyone at the club. 💙

A special mention has to go to Nigel Hoaksey and Daniel Hayes, who were brilliant sports and took their places in the stocks, allowing people to get their own back by launching wet sponges at them for a small donation! 😂🧽

Most importantly, the club managed to raise a fantastic amount of money, which will now be added to our ongoing fundraising efforts towards our ultimate goal of building a new, fit-for-purpose clubhouse at Banks Garth. 🏠🏏

Days like this show just how much support there is for the club and what can be achieved when the club, councillors, local businesses and community all come together.
