FC PONTE 5-1 OVENDEN

A brilliant display of teamwork from the first whistle saw the girls put in a dominant performance today. They started on the front foot and controlled the game all over the pitch, moving the ball exceptionally well and showing real composure playing out from the back. Attacks were built patiently through the thirds, creating chances with confident football that was great to watch.

An early Ovenden goal came from a rare drop of the ball, but Katie more than made up for that, producing several fingertip saves and staying alert to deal with long balls in behind throughout the game. The girls showed real character to respond almost immediately to the Ovenden goal, equalising within minutes through quick passing and excellent possession play. A relentless high press caused Ovenden problems, and it wasn’t long before a couple more goals found the back of the net before the half time whistle.

Ovenden came out with renewed determination in the second half and enjoyed some strong spells of football, but the girls were exceptional defensively. The work rate, tracking back, and willingness to put bodies on the line was outstanding, quite literally, Ava! 🤣 The midfield performance as a unit was the best it’s been, supporting the defence brilliantly and driving forward to create chances, with several players getting themselves on the scoresheet. After a quick chat about knowing when to release the ball and when to drive forward, the midfield timed their play perfectly, linking up dangerously with the forwards and causing constant problems.

Overall, it was a fantastic game of football from both teams. Extremely proud of the team effort, attitude, and quality of football played today 👏🏼

FC PONTE 1-3 METHLEY

An unfortunate first loss for the girls today in what was a very evenly matched game of football. A scoreline that certainly did not reflect the full 70 minutes of play.

A strong Methley side took early control, putting us on the back foot from a well delivered corner that we failed to clear. Credit to the girls, who responded well defensively, remaining rock solid and dealing superbly with Methley’s long balls over the top for the remainder of the half.

Despite going a goal down, the response was positive. When we moved the ball quickly and attacked the space, we caused Methley real problems, creating several chances that narrowly went wide across the face of goal. The determination to find an equaliser before half time was clear, but a double save from the penalty spot denied us right before the whistle.

The second half followed a similar pattern, with Methley again starting strongly and Ponte spending periods under pressure in our own half. However, the girls stayed composed, waited for the right moments to counter, and were rewarded when a perfectly timed ball found newly signed Eliza, who calmly finished with a fantastic strike to bring us level.

Unfortunately, we went on to concede two further goals from Methley corners, a real disappointment given how well we had defended as a unit in open play. Still, the girls refused to give in, battling until the final whistle and pushing hard to ensure set pieces were not the deciding factor.

The final 12 minutes were intense, with a flurry of chances coming one after another for the girls. Methley’s keeper was sharp to deny us, and unfortunately our last kick of the game hit the woodwork and we finished undeservedly with a 3-1 loss.

A special mention goes to Eliza on her debut, calm, composed, and clinical in front of goal, slotting home a superb equaliser 👏🏼
