Saturday was a disappointing day, a big crowd gathered at Royds lane enjoying the sun, but after electing to bat Rothwell found themselves struggling, losing wickets however f Baddeley continued his good form with bat, however when Baddeley fell for 24 it left Rothwell 75-4, but it was hoped 180 was still possible. Wickets quickly fell and Rothwell found themselves 99-9. But a 50 run 10th wicket partnership between Mosby & Kelly saw Rothwell claim 2 batting points. Then wicketkeeper Mosby was eventually dismissed as Rothwell finished 149 all out.
St chads came out and showed why they were top of league, hitting them off for loss of no wickets

While the 2nds were away at Allerton Bywater, electing to bat, the 2’s only could put on an under par 110 before being dismissed, Sadeepa top scored with 21. In response Rothwell made Allerton work to knock them off and an impressive spell from Sadeepa claiming 4-14 off 10 overs gave rothwell a chance, eventually reducing Allerton Bywater 110-9 hoping for a tie, however it wasn’t to be as Allerton Bywater scored the vital run.
Player of match goes to Sadeepa Rathnayake or Dilshan to some , who is sponsored by Cinnamon Smoke Ceylon Restaurant
Sunday came and finished on a high, the 2nds were away at Ferrybridge in the cup, getting to 95 with skipper Gaz Newton scoring 35 off 13 balls gave rothwell something to bowl at. Then Rothwell made it difficult for Ferrybridge as the bowlers worked as a unit and made it tight and Ferrybridge finished 13 short.

Weekend Results!
It was a mix bag of results, as Saturday ended in defeat for both teams when possibility of winning both was on the cards.
The 1st XI away at Glasshoughton posted a disappointing 108, with McMaster & Baddeley only 2 of 3 players hitting double figures, in reply & in the rain. Glasshoughton looked to be cruising to victory at 90-3, but a remarkable bowling spell between Waqar & 1st team debutant Olly Newton took 6 quick wickets between them to reduce Glasshoughton to 97-8 & then 106-9. However it wasn’t to be as Glasshoughton held onto victory. Player of the match goes to Olly Newton for his bowling spell that troubled Glasshoughton & nearly brought home victory.
While at home Rothwell did well to reduce Knottingley to 169 runs after being on 117-3 with Knottingley captain Howe getting 80 runs. Wickets were shared around, pick of bowling going to Ellis keeping it tight & unlucky to pick up just the 1 wicket. While Hodson picked up 2 wickets for 11 following on from previous week.
In reply, Malaka & Wilson got Rothwell off to a flyer, but losing Wilson with Rothwell on 34, ex rothwell player R Carlton claimed a hat trick to rip through middle order, which then made it difficult to gain momentum back in rothwell favour, Malaka fell for 32 & Charlie Senior kept runs coming claiming 21 runs himself. However wickets kept falling and ended up being 68 runs short.
Player of match goes to Charlie Senior claiming his highest senior score to date & keeping Rothwell in the game.
While on Sunday in the Skidmore cup, Rothwell bounced back to victory over premiership team Nostell, both openers McMaster & Baddeley were in the runs again picking up 39 & 22 runs apiece while ledger came in & got a quick fire 26, however lack of runs elsewhere meant Rothwell posted 129 which felt under par. In reply Ledger & Dwyer opened bowling and the combination of spin & pace seemed to cause Nostell problems. With ledger taking key 3 wickets and Dwyer picking up 2 wickets, this was then backed up by Kelly who ripped through the tail picking up 3 wickets, with Skipper McMaster taking a sharp slip catch off Kelly to finish the game off.
Player of match goes to David ledger for his vital runs & 3 key wickets.
Special mention & appreciation to both visitors this weekend Knottingley Town Cricket Club & Nostell St Oswald CC who both showed cricketing spirit & community staying after , discussing the match & supporting the club 🍻
