Wykebeck FC 4 - 1 Chapeltown FC

The cup fixture that always seems to get thrown up in the early rounds, and the second cup we've met Chapeltown in this season, Chappy made the short journey up Harehills Lane to the Corpus Beck fields for the last-16 County Cup clash. With both teams at full strength, it was sure to be the game of the round.

Chapeltown were hampered somewhat in the first 20 minutes, as all-rounder Daniel Leafe had to get dressed up in the 2nd Goalkeeper kit for the start of the game. Despite playing well, Wykebeck were gifted a goal as Kaiden Cheetham shot squirmed its way under the GK. Kaiden was involved again for the second goal when his cross was met by an exceptional header from Jordan Walker - who knew this Horse could jump?

Despite the setback, Chappy were in the game, and saves still had to be made at the other end, with Adam Wilson and Reece Kay blocking 3 consecutive shots off the line.

HT: 2-0

The game opened up in the second half, and Wykebeck began controlling more of the ball. Austin Ozzy Okoro was brought down in the box on the 65th minute and converted the penalty himself.

Perhaps the highlight of the game was Bruce Fernando scoring against his former club; picking up a loose ball on the edge of the area and placing cooly into the vacant net. There are unconfirmed rumours that he ran off kissing the Wykebeck badge à la Alan Smith 2005 as he celebrated down the touchline. 👀

Chappy grabbed a consolation goal in added time with a great header.

FT: 4-1

Thanks again to Chapeltown for another one of our great games together. Always a pleasure. It was also great to see Leafy back at The Fountain for a drink, but begging for a signing on form was a bit much. 😉🙌🕺

No game this weekend and we've been given the 3 points. Not how we like to do things, but circumstances out of our control.

In the meantime, let's revisit last season's celebrations which show how close our defenders are - all go down together !

Whitkirk Wanderers Sundays 2 - 7 Wykebeck FC

Another convincing win at the weekend as we travelled up Selby Rd to meet Whitkirk.

The tone was set in the first 30 seconds as Charlie Parnell opened the scoring, closely followed by Kaiden Cheetham 5 minutes later. The tone of the game was set and we gave next to no time on the ball.

An Austin Ozzy Okoro brace and Kaiden's second rounded off the scoring for the first half.

HT: 1-5

More of the same second half; Jordan Walker grabbing a goal whilst Ozzy finished off his hattrick.

FT: 2-7

A really well managed game from Mike Stoddart in the middle as well.

Wykebeck FC 2 - 1 MainLine Social AFC

Back where it all began, we were in Wykebeck on Sunday as the search for a home pitch continues. We called the Corpus Christi pitch home for 5 years before moving to the Co-op academy. Not much has changed, but the council have graciously laid some sand down in the goalmouths to stop lakes from forming.

A fiery affair and a formidable opponent that we've not crossed paths with for a couple of years, Mainline will feel hard done by not to take the game to penalties. A very well-drilled, skillful team, both sides had very good chances to take the lead, and no one can quite believe how the game was goalless at half time.

HT: 0-0

Second half was much of the same, with chances created at both ends, and it took a moment of brilliance from Dale Manson to break the deadlock. The only man to be able to bowl off-spin with his foot, the ball kept drifting away from the keeper before finding it's home in the bottom right corner.

Mainline pushed for an equaliser which came 10 minutes from time. A simple cross met with a bullet header past the unorganised Wykebeck defence.

Penalties looked all but certain, before man of the match Kaiden Cheetham decided he wanted to get home early for his dinner, and hit a stellar strike from 25 yards, sparking celebrations from the sideline; no less than he deserved all game.

Old farnley fc 1 - 6 Wykebeck FC

Form is temporary, class is permanent, as Wykebeck were finally back to their normal selves on Sunday with some excellent football played.

Arriving with a brilliant attitude, Wykebeck chased down every ball from the first kick. Farnley were in for a long morning and it took 13 minutes for the opening goal from Austin Ozzy Okoro, taking his tally for the season into double figures. Jordan Walker added to the scoreline 15 minutes later. From then on it was the Chrissy Hargreaves show: covering every blade of grass, Tyson bagged a much-needed hattrick either side of half time.

HT: 0-3

The second half picked up where it left off; Anthony Booth not losing a single header. Credit to our opponents who never gave up and grew into the game somewhat when other teams would've folded. Hesitation at the back allowed both teams to score before Ellis Halligan rounded off the scoring with a header.

FT: 1-6

A massive thank you to Paul McMullen who could've been man of the match with his refereeing performance, allowing both teams the opportunity to play freely.

Chapeltown 2 - 0 Wykebeck FC

There's not too much to be said about the weekend's Senior Cup defeat. The better team on the day rightfully won the game.

Although we arrived at Norma Hutchinson park in good spirits, and played fairly well throughout the match, Chapeltown took their chances and we squandered ours.

HT: 1-0

Wykebeck looked like quality individuals, whereas Chapeltown looked like a quality team.

FT: 2-0

Good luck to our opponents in the rest of the cup and we look forward to a return fixture in the league.

Pudsey Afc 3 - 3 Wykebeck FC

A game of two halves at the weekend as we met Division 1 champions, Pudsey, on Bramley Park.

The first half was completely dominated by the home side, as several Wykebeck starting 11 were still in the pub. Less than two minutes had gone when Pudsey were [rightly] awarded a penalty for handball; nothing Pally could do to get out of the way. As is customary nowadays, the penalty was saved by GK Adam Wilson, to keep the scores level for at least another 4 minutes.

The front two of Pudsey tore the Wykebeck defence apart, and goals 1, 2 & 3 all coming from similar positions down the right hand side and squared across goal. Wilson's efforts in between the sticks keeping the scoreline in single figures.

HT: 3-0

After a deserved bollocking from manager Johnny Starkey, Wykebeck came out for the second half a new team. Having seemingly sweated out the 15 pints of Guinness, the visitors began to take hold of the game and were given a boost in the 49th minute when the Pudsey #5 was given his matching orders for bringing down Jordan Walker as the last man.

Austin Ozzy Okoro latched onto a loose ball 5 minutes later and smashed home his 9th goal of the season. Wykebeck smelt blood and Taylor Starkey dominated the middle of the park. Bruce Fernando scored his first goal for the club on 58 minutes, sparking celebrations and belief that we could produce yet another comeback. It wasn't until a minute before the end when Taylor played in Bruce down the right hand side, who calmly slotted the ball into the far corner to complete the comeback.

Although we pushed on for the winner, the game ultimately ended in stalemate.

FT: 3-3

Pudsey will feel aggrieved not to have come away with a win, and Sunday showed what a formidable team they're going to be this year. Wykebeck's grit and resilience got us a point from a seemingly unassailable position - attitude and mentality that won us the league last season.

Drighlington 1 - 2 Wykebeck FC

A match leveller this morning as we progressed through to the next round of the County Cup.

Playing against the conditions in the first half, the game was understandably dominated by Drighlington. Chances were created with next to no response from ourselves and the breakthrough came in the 40th minute with a looping, wind-assisted header.

HT: 1-0

The game was always going to be won by the team that scored the most from the top of the hill, as there was next to no possibility of scoring up the hill against the wind. The equaliser came 20 seconds into the second half as Taylor Starkey's uncontested corner curled into the far side of the net. Wykebeck were ahead 2 minutes later when Taylor's free kick rebounded and Sten Thompson was on hand to slot home the winner.

From that point there was no doubt in the result, as a resilient Drig side tried to press, but couldn't beat the elements. Chrissy Hargreaves made an appearance in the second half; his 'retirement' lasting all of 13 days - more retirement comebacks than Tyson Fury.

FT: 1-2

Good luck to our opponents in the league, and thank you for hosting us after the game in their pub with food.

Barwick FC 1 - 4 Wykebeck FC

A very difficult game yesterday which we took away in the last 15 minutes. Barwick took the lead after 10 minutes through a mistake at the back. Wykebeck controlled the game from then on, with Austin Okoro smashing the equaliser in off the post.

HT: 1-1

Second half had more chances, but the ball breaking down in the final third and very good defending from Barwick. Ozzy's brilliant solo effort carved open the tiring legs and put us ahead. After winning a penalty, he scored his hattrick from the spot. With the game gone, Ozzy added to his tally to take the game away.

Wykebeck FC 10 - 1 Swillington Sundays FC

Back to normal service this week as we took down our [new] "rivals" in Swillington at the Co-Op Academy.

It took 25 minutes for the deadlock to be broken, and the halftime score was added to by two penalties. A domineering display from Wykebeck never had the result in doubt.

HT: 3-0

The goals continued to flow early into the second half, with Charlie Parnell scoring a hattrick and Jordan Walker just doing what he does.

Marcos Silva scored with his debut first touch from a corner, and Bruce Fernando slotted into the middle of the park like he'd played with us for years. The remaining goals came from Taylor Starkey & Austin Okoro.
