Leeds Marathon. A short story in photos…
Photo 2: “Ahh I’m off to a great start! I’m keeping up with & and everyone can see that I’m flying on the tracker!”
Photo 3: “Ahh that’s a long road and there’s a hill coming up… I can do this!”
Photo 4: “If I can just keep up with the guys for a bit longer, I’ll be happy. Why does Alex look so happy, did he check the weather app today? It’s about to go to 22°”
Photo 5: “Guess I’m on my own now. Great time for my earphones not to work and for me to start cramping at 11k in…”
Photo 6: “Okay it’s only 22km and my soul has left my body. I’m cramping horrendously in my quads and hamstrings while these kids try to give me sweets and electrolytes. Why can’t I reach for the sweets without cramping and shouting profanities in front of them and the village crowd?. I’ve never even heard of Pool, what is this place and why am I not in Otley yet?!”
Photo 7: “F*ck another cramp! Why am I seizing up every 200m?! How am I going to make it up that 3km hill out of Otley?!”
Photo 8: “That hill was the definition of hell in that heat! I’m only still standing because of that kind gent who forced me to take his salt tablets after seeing me hobbling. He seemed a bit aggressive but that must be how guardian angels communicate? But hang on where’s everyone else from my green bib wave and why am I getting overtaken like this?!”
Photo 9: “People have been telling me the finish line is just around the corner for about 45 minutes now. Why am I being lied to?”
Photo 10: “What the actual f*ck was that?! Never again. Ooo they’re giving out goodie bags and a medal!”
