Well done to the TLRT riders, Paul Jackson, Stephen Wilde, Andrew Walters and Amie Walters on finishing well on the Colin Adams Motorparts Hurst Cup 2026. A tough trial especially on Sunday after rain through the night. Congratulations to all the finishers and to the organisers for a top event.

Well done to Matt Tarbutt Rallying on a good finish at the East Riding Stages Rally 2026. An ignition coil pack problem on Friday night lost time that was impossible to regain. The first event in the new Clio for Matt and Mike, Saturday stages went very well and no damage made it all worthwhile. Looking forward to their next rally. 👍👍

Are Auto-Dimming Headlights Making Things Worse?

Modern car tech is amazing — no doubt about it. But have you noticed how often people complain about being dazzled by headlights these days?
I’ve got a theory why… auto-dimming headlamps.

Lots of new cars now use sensors that automatically dip your main beam when they detect oncoming lights. Sounds great, right? But here’s the thing — when we used to dip our headlights manually, we’d usually do it just before we saw the other car’s lights. We could predict it.

Sensors, on the other hand, only react after they detect glare — often a second or two later. That tiny delay might not sound like much, but it’s enough to leave the oncoming driver dazzled.

So while today’s headlights are brighter and smarter, I can’t help wondering if the convenience of auto-dimming might actually be part of the problem.

If your car has auto-dimming lights, what’s your experience? Do they make night driving easier, or could they be causing more glare for others?
