Hartshead Moor v Altofts U13s 2 June 2026

After 2 postponements and multiple requests to rearrange, we finally got to play our cup game with a place in the quarter-finals at stake.

Billy Bryant lost the toss, meaning Altofts were put in to bat first by the hosts. Despite arriving in good spirits after last week’s heroics, a shaky start saw last week’s swashbuckler, Noah Stogden, bowled first ball – a cruel blow to the team’s confidence. Will Upton joined Jayden Darbyshire at the crease, but he too soon departed, leaving Altofts at 11-2. Jayden continued his impressive run, punishing any loose deliveries, while Dexter Robinson struck two boundaries before falling for 8, bringing the score to 27-3. A brief partnership followed as Harley Roebuck supported Jayden, who retired again on a solid 25 from 28 balls. When Harley was dismissed for 10, the runs dried up and wickets continued to tumble. Noah Jenkinson (10) and Vivek Meisuria (2no) tried to stem the tide, but Altofts closed their innings on a disappointing 73-8, well below par for this fixture.

The Hartshead Moor Cricket Club openers displayed maturity and composure, setting off at a blistering pace and piling on 34 runs in the first four overs, leaving Altofts firmly on the back foot. Two quick wickets from Dexter Robinson briefly raised hopes at 50-2, but the hosts steadied themselves and chased down the target in less than ten overs, sealing a comfortable win.

Although the result was disappointing, Altofts faced a well-drilled and organised side.

Positives included Jayden’s continued form with the bat and Harley’s determination at the crease. It was also encouraging to see Noah J back after recovering from his 100th injury. Among the bowlers, Noah S and Dexter stood out for their efforts.

Congratulations to Hartshead Moor and best wishes for their upcoming cup match. As for Altofts, it’s time to regroup, refocus on the league, and look for a quick turnaround with a visit to East Ardsley the next day.

East Ardsley v Altofts U13s 3 June 2026

After last night’s disappointing cup defeat, our attention shifted back to league action. With spirits lifted and determination renewed, we made the short journey to East Ardsley hoping to dodge the looming clouds and secure our second consecutive league victory.

Billy Bryant lost the toss yet again, meaning we were sent in to bat first by our hosts. Our opening pair, Jayden Darbyshire and Noah Stogden, were tasked with laying the groundwork for a strong innings – a task they carried out superbly. Jayden took full advantage of the inexperienced bowling attack, hammering 5 boundaries and retiring on 28 from only 18 balls. Noah S played with more restraint, but punished any loose deliveries, striking 4 fours to retire on a composed 26.

Dexter Robinson and Harley Roebuck came in next, aiming to build on the solid start. Although they protected their wickets effectively, the run rate slowed as overs slipped away. With encouragement to accelerate, Dexter responded brilliantly, retiring on 25 after an attacking stint. Seth, promoted up the order, unfortunately departed first ball, leaving us 98-1. Billy, despite recent struggles, joined Harley and looked revitalised, smashing 6 boundaries and finishing unbeaten on 29 from just 13 balls. Harley played a steady supporting role scoring 10, helping us close our innings at 134-1 from 20 overs.

With a sizeable total to defend, we rested our usual opening bowlers to give others a chance. Luke Rigby and Jack Teasdale took the new ball, and a sharp run out in the first over had our hosts at 1-1. Luke and Jack bowled with great discipline, conceding only 2 runs across their 4 overs. Next up were Oliver Firth and Viv Meisuria, with Oliver striking immediately, following a nice catch from Noah S to leave East Ardsley 2-2. Their number 4 smashed a six with his first ball but was bowled by Oliver on the very next, making it 8-3. Another quick run out had our opponents reeling at 11-4, and Viv then bowled the next batter to reduce them to 11-5. Noah Jenkinson and Seth Camm followed, both bowling tight lines and conceding just 4 runs between them. Seth claimed a wicket thanks to a sharp catch by Harley, leaving the scoreboard at 25-6. Harley and Dexter continued the pressure, with Harley taking a wicket for 31-7 and Dexter finally dismissing opener Grace Goodwin, who showed real grit for her 8 off 53 balls. Jayden and Noah S closed out the innings, with East Ardsley finishing on 37-8.

A brilliant all-round performance from the lads. Congratulations to Jayden, Noah S, Dexter and Billy, all retiring unbeaten, ably supported by Harley. The bowling unit was superb throughout, with Oliver picking up two wickets. Our fielding showed real improvement, conceding just 11 extras, and special mention goes to Billy for his best stumping display so far.

Commiserations to East Ardsley, a young and developing side – best of luck for the remainder of the season, and here’s hoping you notch up your first win soon. The match was played in excellent spirit throughout. After an improved atmosphere and performance, we move up to 5th place in the league and look forward to building on this result when we welcome Wakefield St Michels in our next fixture.

Altofts under 11s vs East Ardsley United Cricket Club

Captain Alex lost the toss and was asked to bowl. We did really well with the ball, with 2 wickets for William S and Freddie and 1 a piece for Alex R and Hudson. William S also took a great catch. However, by the end of the innings, we were a little bit slack in the field and let them get a few more runs than they should have. East Ardsley ending their innings on a net score of 278.

William S opened the innings hitting some good boundaries, but unfortunately his hard work was undone by loosing his wicket. He was accompanied by Noah (7) who played some good shots.

Alex K and Lucas only faced 3 balls before the heavens opened and the game was abandoned, sharing the points.

Fingers crossed we see sunshine again next week.

The latest Sunday Development XI fixture saw a youthful Altofts side hit the road to Colton Cricket Club, looking to maintain their impressive start to the season—and they rose to the challenge in style.

Captain Nehal Rana (sponsored by KPM Fire) won the toss and had no hesitation in choosing to bat, with Altofts setting out their stall early.

Openers Elliott Hopwood and Jack O’Malley (sponsored by KR Construction) made an excellent start, putting on a fluent 68 for the first wicket to lay a strong foundation.

Hopwood continued in fine form, combining with Sam Lewis to add another 38 before departing for a well-earned 40. However, momentum briefly swung, as Altofts suffered a middle-order wobble, slipping from a commanding 100-2 to 115-6.

Step forward Josh Goodwin (sponsored by DJ Prem) on debut. Showing great composure, he steadied the innings brilliantly, building a crucial 48-run stand with Scott Hayes. The highlight of the innings followed, as Harvey Lewis (36*) joined Goodwin for a superb 89-run partnership, pushing Altofts into a dominant position. Goodwin’s impressive debut came to an end on a fantastic 81, helping guide Altofts to an imposing 281-9.

After the break, Altofts set about defending their total with typical energy. Rana and Jayden Darbyshire opened the bowling with discipline, though Colton’s openers made a solid start. The breakthrough finally arrived courtesy of Harvey Lewis, with Daniel Hayes holding onto a smart catch to dismiss the dangerous opener.

A second wicket soon followed through Harry Dunhill (sponsored by John Dunnill Landscapes), leaving Colton at 52-2 and shifting the momentum. From there, Altofts’ bowlers took control. Elliott Hopwood (3-15) and Jayden Darbyshire (2-9) delivered excellent spells, keeping the pressure firmly on the hosts.

Sam Lewis then wrapped up the tail with two wickets of his own, supported by a sharp catch from Henry Perry, as Colton were bowled out for a respectable 173.

It was another outstanding team performance—full of energy, resilience, and teamwork. This young Altofts side continues to grow with every game, playing with great spirit and doing the club proud.

On a drizzly Monday night, the Under 11’s welcomed TABS CC - Thorp Arch & Boston Spa Cricket Club down Lock Lane and captain Tristan won the toss and put the visitors in to bat.

From the go, William S and Ronnie put TABS under pressure, with some super bowling. This set the scene, and the rest of the team backed this up. There were 2 wickets a piece for William S and George, with Tristan, Kian and Ronnie all collecting 1.

There were some very good overs from Ronnie, Jude, Jacob and Will P, however we switched off a little in the field at the end of the innings, but as Coach Liam said, we’ll put that down to first day back at school!

TABS ended their innings on a net score of 245.

With the bat we put on the best performance of the season and everyone ended in positive numbers! The first pair of William S and Ronnie got us off to a great start, with both starting strongly. William top scored with 17 runs, hitting some lovely boundaries and singles and also looked after his wicket well. Ronnie (10) also hit boundaries and took some good singles.

William P (2), played some really good defensive shots and got a couple of singles and his batting partner Jacob (4), was the same, and looked after his wicket well.

The next pairing was Kian and Jude. Kian (3) made some good blocks and singles, and Jude (2) looked after his wicket. Finally, George (15) hit some lovely cover drives and boundaries and was unlucky not to get more from some good fielding. Captain Tristan (10) was impressive with his positive running, getting runs from blocks and hitting some lovely shots.

Altofts ended their innings with the loss of only one wicket and a net score of 289, giving us a 44 run win.

All in all, it was an impressive team performance and it's good to see that the work we are doing in training is paying off! It was especially great to see all the team in positive numbers with the bat and keeping standards high in our bowling attack and fielding game.

On Thursday, we go again!

Knaresborough Ladies v Altofts Angels 31/5/26

The Angels were back on the road on Sunday with a nice trip out to North Yorkshire for the rearranged fixture with a very competitive Knaresborough Forest Cricket Club side.

On another hot day, captain Sophie Scaife (sponsored by Yates Dry Wall Ltd) won the toss and chose to field first.

Nerves again were the order of the day, but a steely resolve was also present as the Angels went in search of that elusive first win in the top division.

Jackie Carter (sponsored by Ali Carter Temple Spa Consultant) fresh and keen on the back of last weeks Mars Bar performance of the week, opened the bowling and duly got smashed for four with her very first ball. A couple of eyes probably went up to the heavens thinking ‘here we go again’, but this time bowling improved in all areas. Carter replied with her own wicket getting the opener caught by Joanne Walsh (sponsored by Maslen Tailormade Travel) close in.

Walsh herself picked up the second wicket with her third ball, when a slight edge went to our wicket keeper Stacie Potter (sponsored by KDL renovation ), who took the advice of ‘catching with soft hands’ to a whole new level of cushioning. There was absolutely no need for a DRS review on this one; the ball was so deeply embedded in the keeper's custody, it practically required a search warrant to get it back! Use your imagination, no gloves required 😊 Pure wizardry Potter!

Anyway back to the action, and once we’d got the ball back, both Amy Prudhoe (sponsored by Freshlook valeting & detailing) and Vicky Dunnill (sponsored by John Dunnill Landscapes) ended the first pairing with two tight overs.

The second pairing risked building a healthy total, when Scaife was hit for a couple of fours in the first over, before Emma Hannaford (sponsored by The Yorkshire Broker) dropped a dolly off her own bowling. It was left to Carter to bag a second wicket bowling the dangerous Knaresborough batter.

The third pairing saw tight bowling and even better fielding, especially from Jackie ‘Velcro’ Carter, where everything stuck and she didn’t fall over once! Kelly Goodwin (sponsored by GSL Education) getting her first wicket of the season after another fine catch from Jo Walsh.

The last pair looked a dangerous pairing, but Hannaford got the perfect start with a wicket caught by Amy Prudhoe and the same player was marginally run out with some great fielding by Walsh and Prudhoe.

Prudhoe kept the bowling tight right till the last ball when she was walloped for four. Knaresborough Forest ending on 254/6 (net).

Onto the batting, and Altofts faced one of the leagues best bowlers, who cleaned up Carter in her first over before Hannaford was bowled in the 4th over. The only glint being a wonderful four for Carter. The girls came out with 2 runs in total after the wickets had fallen.

Potter and Walsh got off to a good start with a four from Potter and several well run singles had the girls well on track before 3 wickets in three balls wiped out all the good work done. Knaresborough’s demon bowler going through the Altofts batters with ease. 7 runs added.

Altofts were now up against it but the girls never gave in as Vicky Dunnill with her ‘Albert Einstein’ locks worked out how to build a healthy total, and together with Kelly G, put 26 runs on the board to bring the game back to a competitive level.

It was now down to Scaife and Prudhoe, who needed 20 runs to win and not lose any wickets. A quiet 1st over saw three runs added, Scaife was then caught herself by the wicketkeeper, going for another hit and now the winning line looked to be getting too far away.

With 14 runs still needed and 2 overs left, a couple of singles were exchanged before Scaife let fly with the bat and sent the pink ball soaring over square leg for 6. Cue wild celebrations from the travelling fans. 10 runs off the over.

The last over was tension personified, 4 runs required, both batters visibly shaking, recently polished nails (the rest of the team not mine) bitten. Ball one to Prudhoe… zero runs, pressure building, knees knocking. Ball 2 a quick single, 3 required, the normally steely faced Scaife now a jabbering wreck as she faced ball 3, another single. Scaife now visibly relaxing at the non strikers end as Prudhoe goes back in to the lions den. Opposition now circling like sharks ready to taste blood. Ball 4 it’s a wide and the crowd go wild. Altofts are level, ball 5 Prudhoe plays a lovely drive back past the bowler and runs two runs. Now you would think that a win is a win, but there you’d be wrong as Altofts were now 3 in front but wides to be re-bowled.

Prudhoe saw one off, then got warned for swearing, then came another wide and a fist bump, Altofts one ball away and 5 in front. A wicket means a draw, anything else and Altofts bag their first win.

Prudhoe (POTM and this weeks Mars Bar winner) defends the last ball, small crowd erupts, Knaresborough magnanimous in defeat. Girls can’t stop shaking, everyone needs a beer. Great drama, great win, who said womens softball was boring! Not me!

Altofts Angels ending on 259/7. Winning by 5 runs.

Next up Festival day 7th June away at Colton.

Paul Denison.
