Highlights of Day 1 at the British Championships

Lola had a hard day out, to be expected after a year out, showed guys and spirit throughout and 2026 will be stronger for her.

Amber fought well to a 7th place finish, some nice ashi waza and unlucky not to get a chance to fight off for the bronze.

Jenson had a tough draw and had to fight one of the event favourites not once but twice. Great effort and another 10pts chalked off to his Dan grade... 14yrs old and only 30pts to go!

Zac blitzed through the comp, finishing 5 fights in just over 2mins total on his way to Gold. Double bubble, gained his points needed for his 1st Dan... Also only 14yrs old

Hanna fought on day 2 in the precadet, though group but showed great spirit at such a young age.

Great turn out last night, helped by a visit from old training partners Thrive Jiu Jitsu. Some nice ashi waza drills, conditioning and tough randori with fresh faces. These club visits always helps your members develop. There was some lovely Ippon judo on show, plenty of grit and determination. Everyone trained hard and will certainly be sore today... I know I was!

Great effort guys, well return the favour in a few weeks and visit you guys Peterborough 👊🥋

Bit late on this post but last weekend saw us competiting over 2 different competitions.

The younger players fought in the BJC Midland open with Josh, Theo, Josh and John fighting in the under 10s taking a silver and gold between them. Bella fought later taking another silver medal. Well done guys great experience for you in your growing judo journey.

Olli and Shane then fought at the heart of England in Walsall. Shame took a deserved bronze medal and Olli fought amazingly, winning a silver.

So with the competition season in full swing after the summer, we set off to London for the English Closed championships. Small team but some big performances out there with all 4 players stepping up into new categories.

Hanna Bancer only just turned pre-cadet ended up fighting 2 cadet girls as no one else was in her official age class. Fought a great first fight, showing aggression and determination, ultimately got over powered by the much older girls but can be very proud of her performance.

Jenson Jones first comp in the car group, won 3 fights 2 of which were Dan grades with some incredible Ippon judo lost his next one to set himself up in the bronze medal match against his training partner, unlucky but a great 5th place finish for his first comp in a new age group ruffling a few feathers on his way.

Zac fought well but lost to the eventual gold medal winner, fought his way through the repercharge and won the bronze medal fight against his club mate. Zac also entered the juniors on the Sunday winning one and narrowly losing two. Great experience.

Amber Penlington was our final Judoka to take the mat, winning her first fight convincingly and then lost to the eventual gold medal winner, she did win a bronze medal with a cracking Ippon

Always nice to get mentioned, really proud of this small but great club.

We started up just before Covid and since then have gone from strength to strength.
