Congratulations to our local junior side Kirkintilloch Rob Roy FC securing a place in the first round proper of the Scottish Gas Scottish Cup

Many of our boys grew up and still live in Kirkintilloch and it’s fantastic to see the local club achieve this!

Coming off the bench on the half hour mark, Danny was asked to implement a change of shape, in an attempt to counter the Coatbridge high press and he stamped his authority on the game, taking back control of a middle of the park, we threatened to be over run in.

A fantastic performance from Danny, contributing to an overall great result.

A double on the night, winning us the penalty and using his mix of strength and pace, to be an overall nuisance all night. A fantastic performance from Campsie’s number 9, to add to an already fantastic start to his season. 6 goals in 3 games, sees him top the scoring charts.

3 points and a return to the summit, in a fantastic encounter under the lights.

Campsie took an early lead through Ruairi Convy sponsored by jag.cuts after a Jordan Sweeney sponsored by Gold Seal Homecare Ltd free kick rebounded off the wall, only for him to force it back into the box, for Ruairi to slot away.

In a game played at a frantic pace, Coatbridge continued to push forward, pressing from the front and there efforts were rewarded on 29 minutes, when Coatbridge took advantage of Campsie being caught in possession at the edge of their box. David Kerr picked the ball up and scored a goal which will no doubt be in Coatbridges goal of the season nominations. A fantastic effort to level things.

HT 1-1

The half time team talk was that we had to do things faster, 2 touches had to be 1 and we had to know what our next move was, before we had received the ball. Coatbridge were pressing at every opportunity and we had to be confident on the ball, if we were to play through their press.

We regained the lead, early in the second half through a bit of good old route one football. Paul Travers sponsored by Andrews Electrical launched the ball forward and the Coatbridge defence didn’t deal with it. Ruairi didn’t need a second invitation, under the circumstances, and he coolly slotted the ball past the goalkeeper to restore our advantage.

8 minutes later, Ruairi was sliced down in the box and the referee pointed to the spot. Up stepped David Gibson sponsored by boilerandvalve.com, who slotted the ball low and hard to the keepers right to put some daylight between the teams and make it 3-1.

The game was far from over though and Coatbridge continued to push, in an attempt to pull themselves back into the game. Although clear cut chances were few and far between, they continued to put pressure on us and made for a very exciting end to the fixture.

A fantastic game for the neutral and a real advert for the Warriors Football Association, everything you’d want from a Friday night.

Unfortunately, the Coatbridge keeper picked up, what looks like, a nasty Achilles injury. We wish him all the best and hope it doesn’t stop him getting out to watch the game tomorrow (we’ve been told that was his main concern 😅)

All the best to Coatbridge for the remainder of the season, we look forward to visiting Stepford in February.
