Exciting season ahead! ๐๐ช๐จโฌ๏ธ๐จ
The 1st XV Captain for 2021/2022 is Liam Fitts ๐ค๐
A product of the excellent rugby setup at Hitchin Boys' School, an experienced natural leader and respected player, Liam is thrilled to be handed the responsibility:
''Itโs something Iโve wanted for a long time and itโs a true honour.
Our forwards are mobile, our backs are electric. Itโs all very exciting and the boys canโt wait to rip in!''
Head Coach Baz Basra added on the selection of Liam:
''Fittsy will be our 1st XV Captain this season backed up by Arun Johal as Vice-Captain. It was a pretty easy decision to make as both are well respected within the squad and lead from the front. They also have a good knowledge of the game and train and play like leaders.''

Our Wanderers captain for 2021/2022 season is the big hitting Shane Dimmock.
A product of the Return to Rugby initiative some 7 years ago, he's been part of some legandary 2s and 3s squads, Shane has represented Letchworth proudly ever since.
Shane on his captaincy said the following: ''When I moved to Letchworth I joined this great club. It's a privilege to be selected as captain for the 3s. After a long period out, we're eager to get on the pitch and put the hard work into practice. We have a great mix of experience and promising talent and want to get the best out of all of our players whilst enjoying ourselves.''

Our legendary captain ๐๐ค๐ช๐ ๐ค๐
The Lionesses in their maiden season, shall be lead by the experienced Laura. A mix of experienced players and ladies picking up a rugby ball for the first time have created a great balance in the squad.
Confidence has grown immesurably after being founded during the first lockdown in 2020 and the team has come a long way. Numbers are strong at training and the ladies have faired well in friendlies and most recently at the North Herts Festival.
Laura said: ''I am so proud of how far the lionesses have come in the short time that we have been together.
The passion the ladies show and the desire to continually improve week in and week out is second to none.
My hopes for this season are for us to continue to develop as a team, to get some more game experience in our new league, to get some more ladies to join us and to most importantly have fun and enjoy the beautiful game that is rugby''

CLUB ALL SET TO HONOUR LEGEND
It will be all hands to the pump this coming Saturday as Letchworth Rugby Club are set to honour one of their most iconic members. Graham โBossโ Walker was in turn Captain and Chairman of the club and also County coach and President. He also had a long and successful career in the Police as well as being commended for his work at the Hatfield and Potters Bar rail crashes and the Far Eastern Tsunami where he headed up the UK recovery team. He lost his long battle with cancer in January and it is only with the relaxation of Covid laws that he can be remembered in true style this Saturday (July 31st).
The day begins with a veterans game between LETCHWORTH and Bishops Stortford at 11.30 am. Then, following speeches, there is a GRAHAM WALKER SELECT XV including players from Rosslyn Park, Ampthill, Hertford, Sheffield Tigers and Letchworth against a County Select team kicking off at 2.30 pm. This will be followed by the BRITISH AND IRISH LIONS second test on a big screen and a band afterwards.
President Brian BURKE said โIt will be a full on day to honour a true son of Letchworth and Hertfordshire. It cannot be stressed enough how much of a legend this man was and we intend to make this one of the greatest days in the clubs history. Everyone is welcome as the action will all be outside with entry by memorial programme at ยฃ5.โ

SUN 9TH MAY: ROYSTON COLTS 21 LETCHWORTH COLTS 36
Letchworth played their first Colts fixture at a sunny but windy Royston on Sunday. This also happened to be the first game of the season for both sides. It was very clear as Letchworth kicked off into a strong breeze that the game was going to be a release of pent up testosterone, within the first 5 minutes there had been some huge tackles made.
Letchworth maintained the territorial advantage and scored first. After that the lead changed hands several times, with Royston a couple of tries clear at half time. The intensity continued into the second half with no quarter given, and with the wind Letchworth came back despite Royston crossing the Letchworth line. Heading into the last quarter the physicality was maintained, with Letchworth ultimately winning 36-21.
This was a superb advert for Colts rugby with both sides equally matched. Part 2 will take place at Letchworth on Sunday 16th May for the return fixture.

The Lionesses held their own against an experienced Shelford Ladies team and more importantly, all throughly enjoyed themselves!
We're all looking forward to many more games in the coming weeks and months.
If you're interested in joining the Lionesses or know someone who is, training is every Wednesday 7.30-8.45pm and Sundays 12-1pm or give us a follow/DM.
