🥋 COMING SOON TO CHELMSFORD?
We’re considering introducing a brand-new Karate class for children aged 5–7 at Gakusei Karate Chelmsford.
At this age, karate isn’t just about learning how to kick and punch.
It’s about helping children learn to:
⭐ Build confidence
⭐ Listen and concentrate
⭐ Develop discipline
⭐ Learn respect
⭐ Become more physically active
⭐ Try new things and overcome challenges
⭐ Learn valuable self-defence skills
And perhaps most importantly… learn that they are capable of more than they think.
We’re currently gauging interest before we launch the class.
👊 Would your child be interested in trying karate?

“I wish I’d continued training.”
When people think of karate, they often picture children or elite athletes. Ian’s story proves that it’s never too late to restart.
After joining our Over 60s Karate Class, Ian has discovered that karate is about so much more than punches and kicks. It’s about improving balance, staying active, building confidence, keeping your mind sharp, and being part of a welcoming community.
In this video, Ian shares his own reasons for taking that first step and the positive impact training has had on his life.
If you’ve ever thought:
🥋 “Am I too old to start?”
🥋 “Will I be fit enough?”
🥋 “Is karate really for someone like me?”
Ian’s testimonial is well worth watching.
Our classes are specifically designed for beginners aged 60+, with training at a pace that suits you. There’s no pressure, no experience needed—just a friendly group of people supporting one another to become healthier, stronger, and more confident.

🥋 Why Kata Training Is Excellent for Over 60’s 🥋
Many people think karate is only about punching and kicking, but one of the most valuable parts of training for older adults is actually *Kata*.
Kata is a series of controlled movements and techniques performed with focus, posture, and balance. For adults over 60, regular kata practice can provide incredible health benefits:
✅ Improves Balance
Kata teaches body control, weight distribution, coordination, and stability. These movements help strengthen the muscles that support balance and may help reduce the risk of falls.
✅ Supports Bone Health
Weight-bearing exercise is important as we age. The stances and controlled movements used in kata place gentle stress on the bones and muscles, which can help support bone density and overall strength.
✅ Enhances Mobility & Posture
Kata encourages better posture, flexibility, and joint movement, helping participants stay active and mobile for longer.
✅ Keeps the Mind Sharp
Learning and remembering sequences challenges the brain and improves concentration, focus, and confidence.
✅ Low Impact & Adaptable
Kata can be practised at a pace suitable for all fitness levels, making it ideal for beginners and those returning to exercise later in life.
At Gakusei Karate, our over 60’s classes focus on supportive, structured training in a welcoming environment where everyone progresses at their own pace.
It’s never too late to start your martial arts journey. 👊
