Today we finished a three week project in Newport School working with the Reception classes to explore the book, 'The Colour Monster' through dance. The kids (and I) had such a brilliant time working together, sharing ideas and coming up with the choreography together, which they all showed today. These kids are only half a term into school and they performed with such confidence. 💚

I wanted to also say the biggest thank you to E10 and E17 Homes for making this project possible. They funded the entire project for the second year running. As a small arts organisation working in schools, it is becoming increasingly difficult to keep these kind of projects going - huge cuts to school budgets and arts funding mean activities like these are frequently sidelined and the kids miss out.

A lot of children do not have the opportunity to take part in any extra curricular arts due to restrictions on funding. So thank you Jamie, I know the school, parents and I are very grateful for this support. 🙏

Last year, we took our Colour Monster project into Newport School and we were blown away by the response from the Reception children.

After just three weeks, 94% of parents said their child talked more about emotions at home, and 91% noticed their child expressing feelings in new ways, through movement, words and play.

So, we're delighted to share that we will be returning to bring reading through movement to new Reception children this year!

If you are a teacher, parent or school leader interested in bringing dance and literacy to your school, get in touch at [email protected].

We are incredibly grateful to E10 and E17 Homes for providing the funding and making our Schools Project possible. If you are looking for a local estate agent, mention the referral code “Wee Movers” for a reduced percentage on successful sale or let.
