We have six Chestnuts here now!
Two bays, two skewbald, one grey, one piebald, one palomino and one Chocolate buckskin. (It's a real colour. Promise 😋)

Can we have some more greys please? They are so pretty on the rolling landscape.

We have a couple of bays arriving next week. One is a very special guest and Bo will be delighted 😀

Update on the way.....

Winter was all worth it for this!
By the end of March we have usually stopped feeding hay as the grass gets going on our old ridge and furrow turf. It's a good opportunity to assess everyone's weight coming into the crazy growth we usually see in May. However some of the oldies still need a nutritional top up to maintain weight, so these guys stay on their bucket feeds for a while. We have a really good system of feeding with these nose bags. It works a treat, as long a you feed them in the right order. Otherwise chaos will ensue!

Lovely little Blaze here was recently diagnosed with PPID (cushings) He's hanging on to his super thick coat, where the others are shedding fast now. If he doesn't start to shed his winter coat soon, we'll be giving him a funky new haircut to help him handle the warmer months 🥰

Spring is here, and Lady is pulling out the moves again!
Very few of our residents act their age 😂 ....... and we love that!!

I haver some wonderful help to look after our oldies and run the business, in the form of Emily.
Emily has a huge amount of experience with horses, and she's just as thorough and eagle eyed as me in caring for these guys.
She also enjoys a spot of poetry, and sent me this last week. I'm a bit worried. I don't want to lose her to a new career. 😂😂

I know I don't post enough here. I'm usually too busy looking after the horses or stuck in the office with the other business.
However on a morning like this, I'm reminded of how much I love this job, and I have to share this peace and beauty that starts my day.
Even though the workload is 10 x the usual, with breaking ice, carting water and making sure everyone is warm and has enough to eat, it's magical being out in this weather. Dude and I just love it.
I must waste at least another half hour taking photos 😆

A little update. Josie and I are now living on site at High Walks Farm 🙌 It took a lot of time and some serious commitment. Many said we should quit, but we got there in the end. We managed to buy some extra land too, just in time for Christmas! ❤️
Now to sort that estate agent...... 😠 IYKYK

We have one (preferably gelding) space coming up. If you have been to view and chatted with me already, get in touch. If not, give me a call to book a viewing 👍

This is just one of the ways we keep our oldies cool and comfortable in the hot weather.
Not all of them appreciate this as much as Rueben and Dude do! 🤣

I know we do retirement livery. I promise to post some lovely photos of the oldies loving their lives here very soon but.... I have to do the foal spam too 😀

I think he's found his name.
It's Bo.

Short for Turbo!

28/05/2025

I never realised they develop so fast!
He's a complete live wire and bold as brass. He's just started short spells of turnout, and so far it's disastrous to my mental health.
Mum and Splodge are doing great. Turnout / su***de videos to follow.

Oh Bess, what have we done!? 😬😳

Oh, my word! Look who arrived yesterday. Well done Bessie, and welcome to the world Splodge. (Fetus name - subject to an update) I knew he was a boy!!
Politely arriving just one day late at 7.03am yesterday. He's so adorable. I've never seen such fluffy ears.
I can't wait to bring you some paddock zoomies videos, but for now, he's confined to the crew yard. He's been vet checked, jabbed and he's full of colostrum so he's had a great start. Bessie is the best mum, she loves him so much. We knew she'd love to have a baby 😍

Dentist day with Sharon Cooper Eq Dental and Grace Hayler

I always think this is a testament to how much our horses trust us, and how patient they are. Sharon of course is very calm and kind with them and I'm always impressed with her ability to read the horses so well and get a good job done for them. They are often visibly more comfortable afterwards.

You would have to hold me down with a rugby team, knock me out cold or pump me full of ketamine before I would be as willing and patient as these horses!!

....still no foalie

13/05/2025

Now that's a foaling box!
Bessie has taken over the crew yard, while we wait for Splodge to arrive.

... but where is Dude? 🤣 👀🐶
