Team Associated B7.1 first run - WBMCC Buggy Blitz Rd6 25/26 EOS carpet 29/03/2026

Last weekend saw the Buggy Blitz winter series conclude; hosted by West Bridgeford Model Car Club based in Nottingham. The series is over 6 rounds with multiple classes of off-road vehicles scattered for including trucks, short course, vintage 2wd and 4wd as well as the usual modern 2wd and 4wd.

A big thank you to Jason and the whole club for hosting this great event! I also won a prize in the raffle 😁

This final round saw my new Team Associated B7.1 hit the track for the first time. I had it built for the previous round but only the day before so went with the OG B7. I built it pretty much to the book going with a shock setup from Kam Wells using the Willspeed springs over the kit purple/purple and deciding to go with 60k 2gear in the diff.

Practice went half well. I say half well because the car turned in nicely but as soon as I hit the throttle all steering vanished! I managed to seed 14th nursing this issue. I then realised I had gone middle middle on my pills so was running too much rear toe at 2°.

Q1 and I’d changed the rear toe down to 0.5° and naturally the car was a lot better. It still had a tendency to push on throttle but things were moving in the right direction. 10th overall having a few minor issues passing other cars on track.

Q2 came and I moved the pills again to adjust the rear toe down to 0°. Again I went 10th overall. It would appear unless you’re the known fastest car in your heat you don’t get the same recognition for being faster than the cars you’re lapping…

Q3 and I moved the shocks more upright on the tower. The car was really starting to come alive now, dipping into the 24 lap club and taking another 7 seconds off my best time. This saw me go 5th overall!

Q4, the final chance to move up to the A final. I needed a repeat of Q3 now. I stood the rear shocks up to the final hole to aid on power steering and went for it. Unfortunately we had a carpet issue on one of the jumps meaning cars were coming off at an angle in the air. I tried a wide line hoping to find some flat carpet but I ended up going under the lifted carpet! Another 10!

Overall this lined me up B2. Not terrible but I knew I had the pace for the A. Here’s the video of how the final went!

Decent day at Buggy Blitz. Seeding was done on conseq 2 laps during practice. I ended up 3rd in 4wd and 9th in 2wd. A tenth shy of being in the top heat. Nether-the-less it’s qualifying and ultimately it shouldn’t matter what heat you’re in… 😁

Lined up 3rd in 4wd (only 1 final) and 4th in the B for 2wd.

4wd with the B84 was going well in a comfortable 3rd but my brain gave up communicating with my thumbs and I ended up 6th.

2wd started scrappy but made my way up to 2nd and promptly pulled away from 3rd getting my head down to chase after the leader. Alas it wasn’t to be with the clock counting down before I could put the pressure on. Happy to come away with 2wd with the B7 working well after a few changes through the day.

Thanks to everyone who helps me do what I do.

A huge thank you to everyone who supports me in my RC racing adventures. From everyone who subs and likes my YouTube videos to all the guys at CML Distribution, Greg at RC Disco or Randy and Joe over the pond at 1up Racing. Thank you guys!

My goals for 2025 were pretty simple really. Finish in the top 10 at regional level and I did just that being tied for 6th place in 4wd. I ultimately lost the tie and finished 7th but still really happy with that result.
2wd was unintentionally given the back seat a little but I finished high enough to get my F2 with it so glad to have got that grade with both cars and going 5th in round at NDOR on merit was amazing too!

On road saw the Associated TC8 arrive so I was keen to hit the track with that and so far so good. A few early niggles I overcome but generally I love the car and I’m looking forward to running it more in 2026

It was my birthday yesterday and what better way to spend it than with friends and going RC racing!

We were a bit delayed arriving so missed out of getting any practice laps in and the track was looking like a fast one!

Q1 I left the setup the same as I’d run it at Stoke and then Louth which was with the middle wheelbase setting on the rear. I had a rocky start running the Wolverine bodyshell but after Louth I was hooked on it so left it on. I also left on Rush 28 tyres not know how the car would behave. Turned out it was a bit of a handful so only managed 11th in a very competitive field.

Q2 and I fitted Rush 30 tyres. Much better. I also returned to the long wheel base kit setup by fitting the “0” rear top arms. Car was much better but still remained in the 11 spot despite going a full lap faster. I knew the TC8 had more to give as I somehow managed to flip my front belt over on the layshaft pulley which instantly made the car feel like it had lost its zippy feeing

Q3 I was tempted to test a different top deck but opted to just go and do better with the belt fixed and tensioned a notch tighter and I did, throwing down a time another full lap faster than before and dropping into 6th overall. Grip roll was becoming a real issue now so adapted my driving for this but I’d banged it in the back of the A final so over the moon with that!

A final. Started off safely with no crashes to pickup places from but an early grip roll saw me drop a chunk of time to the car ahead. A bump from Dan saw me briefly get promoted to 5th but then the car span on the track tape and from then on I was never going to make any moves. Fortunately Lisa lost a wheel and Dans shell came off so I was promoted to finishing 4th and wasn’t the slowest over the single lap so really happy with how the car went tonight.
