Linton Village Cricket Club National Village Cup captain Stanley Leech and Chairman Philip Ball had a fabulous day at Lord's Cricket Ground today at the National Village Cup Final.

We were honoured to collect our Community Legends award from the wonderful folks at The Cricketer magazine and Cawston Press.

Thank you David & Ian, and Steve & colleagues for hosting us today. An utter privilege!!!

And mega congratulations to today’s NVC winners Cuckney Cricket Club!

Thank you very much to the wonderful folks at The Cricketer magazine for declaring Linton Village Cricket Club this year's National Village Cup Community Legends!

We are extremely grateful to have been chosen for this award, and super excited to attend the Final at Lord's on the 6th September!

Not to be outdone by finalists Blackheath CC - we've had a whip round and can confirm that we will be going on the train. 😂

A message from our Chairman, Philip Ball 🏏

After three highly rewarding years, I have made the tough decision to step down as Chairman of Linton Village Cricket Club at the end of this season. I'll remain in post until our Club AGM later this year. Where roles are appointed and vacated.

It has been an absolute privilege to serve as Chairman of Linton Village Cricket Club. I'm not disappearing and hope to still be found playing and pitching in where I can.

So, we are looking for a new Chairman. Next year is the Club's 200th anniversary, and whoever takes on the role will lead the Club through a momentous milestone. Rather a good year to have your name against the role!

You don't need to be a player; if you have a bit of time and skills to spare and care deeply about the Club, we would love to hear from you. Drop us a message here, or have a word with any of the current Committee or Captains.

Finally, thank you to everyone at the Club and on the Committee for your support whilst I have been in post. It has been a pleasure. ❤️🏏

A quick note about pitch watering during the hosepipe ban 💧

We are aware that some people may wonder why they're seeing a hosepipe being used occasionally at our cricket grounds during the current Anglian Water hosepipe ban. We completely understand those concerns, and we'd like to explain.

As a club, we predominantly rely on rain for watering — the playing pitches, cricket squares and outfields. We never water our outfields, and normally only resort to watering the squares when the grass is under stress, never for appearance's sake.

We're very conscious that water is in short supply right now, and with the current Temporary Use Ban ("hosepipe ban") in place we've cut our watering back to the bare minimum needed to keep games safe.

The ban allows sports clubs to use a hose to water pitches in use or under preparation on health and safety grounds. If we let our wickets get too dry, they crack and become dangerous — risking uneven bounce and injury from a hard ball.

We're doing our best to minimise water use by targeting a fine irrigator only at the pitches we're due to play on, rather than a sprinkler across the whole square, and watering well but infrequently (better for grass roots) rather than little and often.

Everything else — the squares, the outfields & boundaries are rightly being left to go brown and take their chances with the weather, like all our gardens right now.

As a community club, we take our responsibilities seriously and are always happy to talk through any concerns.

Well, it wasn't meant to be 💔😢. Linton Village Cricket Club's odds-defying run in the National Village Cup has come to an end.

Congratulations to Chorleywood Cricket Club who were better on the day and earned their place in the next round!

From all at LVCC, a massive well done to all players who have represented the Club in the competition. To get so far at the first time of asking has been a real accomplishment.

Cambridge and Norfolk Regional Group Winners? You should all be very proud of yourselves. 👏

Each match has been an occasion and brought plenty of people together to watch, support and celebrate. Thank you to everyone who came to support us at matches home & away. 🙏

The games I have been lucky enough to witness have produced some of the best Cricket I’ve seen Linton play. 💪🏏

It's been emotional, it's been fun... and today it's been tough! We hope you have all enjoyed it.

Finally - a big thank you our Sponsors, and the local businesses and who have supported the Club during our NVC Games:

- Tilly the Travelling Tea Room
