Today is National Fitness Day šŖ
It got me thinking about just how much things have changed since I started out as a PT/gym instructor back in 1997!
From being on the gym floor and PTing to teaching lots of high-energy classes⦠to tutoring, assessing and IQA work⦠to running my own fitness industry training company ⦠and now working freelance in assessing/IQA while focusing more on a clinical approach to Pilates and biomechanics.
Itās been one hell of a varied journey ā and honestly, I love it all! ā¤ļø
And my own fitness journey has changed just as much.
From being a reasonable runner šāāļø, to climbing mountains šļø, doing lots of HIIT training, alongside yoga and Pilatesā¦
Now, as a perimenopausal woman, my priorities have shifted.
Itās so much more about how well I can move, how strong I can stay or be! and also how healthy I can be for the years ahead.
So these days itās much more about:
šļøāāļø Strength training to maintain/even gain muscle
ā¤ļø Looking after my cardiovascular health
š„ Eating well and getting plenty of protein
š§āāļø Pilates, mobility and moving well
š¶āāļø And, importantly, enjoying the outdoors while being active
Fitness really does change as we move through different stages of life ā itās almost as if we have to consider the changes in our body in relation to what we do for our health and our fitness.
I do believe itās important to meet yourself where you are at now, then go from there⦠š
What matters most to you now?
Getting stronger, feeling fitter, moving better, managing your health ā or simply enjoying exercise?
