Repetition of words is important when teaching children new words. Children to hear a word lots of times and in lots of different contexts to understand and then begin using it.

This lovely video shows how we need to repeat words lots of times to help children learn and use words.

How does repetition help with a child's development? Repeating words allows your child to form an understanding and even attempt to imitate it. Toddlers need to hear the same sounds over and over and link them to patterns they see in the objects being named. Each repetition helps your child solidify the noun, verb, or adjective in their mind.

Back to school: Tips to help your child feel prepared and supported – The Education Hub With the summer holidays coming to an end, going back to school can be daunting for some young people. Starting a new school or beginning a new school year can come with feelings of stress and anxiety.

There’s some great ideas here for how to expand and build upon a child’s language – the ‘one up’ strategy benefits children using gestures or single words to communicate and it can also benefit children who are speaking using sentences.

Love these tips from Mrs Speechie P for encouraging children to use more words at home. We can all fall into the trap of asking our children lots of questions or getting them to label items. It is much more beneficial and helpful to our children if we use the tips from the list of do’s – modelling, extending, waiting, repeating and responding.
