Liverpool-based dancer choreographer Rosie Terry Toogood leading dance makers labs Fridays 10am-12

September 13th, 20th, 27th and October 4th

Rosie is currently in research and development for new "hydrofeminist" work with dance, sound & social sculpture, challenging productivity norms and body usage. She has just returned from Paris at CND where she explored time variations, investigated the impact of postural language with Yasmine Hugonnet. And Basel researching the physics and sensations of effort/letting go, while uncovering choreographic patterns toward feminist conceptions of 'ample time' with Gaga Teacher and choreographer Clea Onori. Together with Illan Lev and Ortho Bionomy therapist and choreographer Margarita Kennedy delving into intrinsic movement and the body's 'tides', and Light designer and Scenographer Yoshi Goettgens on the fluid dynamics of accessible social art.

Her theoretical research focuses on Astrida Neimanis's 'HYDROFEMINISM' which investigates the intersectionality of feminism with environmental change. In addition to this I've been studying and exploring physical responses to fluid dynamics, behaviours, rhythms, patterns, stimuli sensitivity & responsiveness presented in Theodor Schwenk's 'Sensitive Chaos'. This has accordingly brought me to incorporate 'Power and Bodily Practice': Applying the Work of Foucault to an Anthropology of the Body.

About the class:

Rosie’s movement sessions for Choreo-Lab are improvisation-based explorations of themes around my current research topics. I will use different techniques throughout to focus on:

- How to develop movement languages using fascia based intrinsic movement notation,

- 'Dynamic Stillness' with "Continuum Movement' breath-work exercises.

- Explore tension and tension release and expressing these dynamics through gesture and musico-postural language (focussing on gaga’s: effort vs letting go & 'ample time').

Dance Maker’s lab with Vicci Riley
10am - 12

We want to make work – where to begin? It’s okay to start with nothing – what emerges?

In this lab we will create and practice scores looking at ways we can develop our own approach to dance making and practicing for performance as we improvise:-

We will create scores in our imagination

Work with them, share them, pass them on…

We will write, draw and practice scores

Movement scores, stillness scores, sound scores

Watch different scores at the same time

Improvise with scores and observe our results

What holds our attention and why?
