Congratulations to Matt Diggins (Prescot Reform 1) who tonight defended his league handicap trophy by beating Chris Johnson (Parish Church) 2-0. A nervy affair with neither player offering their best, it was the PR1 man who got over the line first, clinching the title in style by potting a pink the full length of the table in the 2nd frame.

Matt is the only player to have won the handicap trophy since the league merger two years ago, could he make it a hattrick next year?

Commiserations to Chris Johnson who has been the outstanding player of the season in the league, knowing him he’ll be disappointed to have not won but a fantastic individual league season for him to be proud of.

Well done to both and congratulations again to Matt 👊

Congratulations to Prescot Reform 2 who defeated Prescot Reform 1 in last nights Rosebowl final.

A tight game through the first two sets of pairings saw PR1 with a 4 point lead going into the last two matches. However, captain John Willis and PR2 stalwart Alan Dodd both had fantastic frames and comfortably saw off any challenge made to secure the title.

Well done to John and his team who were thoroughly derserved winners on the night! 🏆

Congratulations to John Wignell (Prescot Reform 1) on defending the Prescot and Liverpool league championship against Wayne Heitman (PSD). John is currently the only player ever to win this trophy!

Write up from the match referee, Chris Johnson:

Frame 1. John took an early 25 point lead. Wayne worked his way back into the frame culminating in a fantastic 54 clearance to take the first frame. 1-0 Wayne.

Frame 2 - John went 20 points up early on which was followed by a cagey exchange and looking like a re-rack might be on the cards. John was having none of that and spotted a pot which spread the reds all over table. A handful of scoring visits followed with John hitting a 26 to secure the frame. 1-1

Frame 3- Was nip and tuck throughout with John coming on strong later on in the frame, to take the frame on the blue. 2-1 John.

Frame 4 - Again a nip and tuck frame with the lead changing hands several times with both players having opportunities. John eventually took a 27 point lead but missed the crucial black off the last red to secure victory. Wayne had the chance to clear for a respot but missed a tricky brown on the cushion with John eventually taking brown to pink to secure a 3-1 victory and the title of Prescot and Liverpool Snooker League Open Champion 2025.

Congratulations John and commiserations once again to Wayne Heitman.

Thanks to Prescot Parish Church for hosting, to Chris Johnson for preparing the table and refereeing and to Tony Fisher for presenting the trophy!

With the league season now complete, congratulations again must got to Prescot Parish Church who ran away with the league winning by 13 points and being a juggernaut of destruction this season. A solid squad of players and exceptional individual performances means the title rightly goes to L34. Well done boys! 👊

In the individual stats, Chris Johnson was by far the player of the season, winning over 80% of his games. Chris has a real tough year last year, winning only 3/12 games so knuckled down last summer and practiced (ALOT). That practice has certainly paid off and shows what hard work and dedication can do to you even in a short period of time. Congrats Chris for your achievements this year.

In the high break, John Aspey from Parish Church took the league high break with an 86 and held it for quite sometime. Overall high break goes to the classy Wayne Heitman from PSD with a 90 in a cup tie.

A great league season once again. Congratulations to everyone involved 👊👊👊

A big well done to John Aspey & Joe Aspey of Parish Church who last week defeated Wayne Heitman & Anthony Hannaford from PSD to secure the pairs handicap trophy for 2024/25. In what proved to be a nervy affair and with the title on the line, the Aspeys ran out 2-1 winners. A second year in a row the cup has been lifted by a dad and lad, could we see it happen again next year?

Thanks to Prescot Reform club for hosting and to John Wignell for being the referee for the night.

Congratulations again to John & Joe and commiserations to Wayne & Anthony.

It’s been a while since we’ve posted on here as life has gotten in the way but we are back baby! And some great news to announce, the run away leaders of the league are no longer leaders………THEY ARE CHAMPIONS! Congratulations to the Parish Church who have been exceptional this season and have throughly deserved the title. Outstanding for day one they had the highest ever total at Christmas (for an 8 team league) and will probably break the record for most points in a season also.

Now, a bit of admin. Two finals are due to be played soon:

Comp: Pairs Final
Where: Prescot Reform Club
When: Tomorrow - 7:00pm
Who: Wayne Heitman & Anthony Hannaford (PSD) vs John Aspey & Joe Aspey (Parish Church)

Could we have a different ‘dad n lad’ win it for the second year in a row ????

Comp: Championship Final
Where: Prescot Parish Church
When: Thursday 17th March - 7:30pm
Who: Wayne Heitman & John Wignell

Spectators are welcome at both finals.

Good luck to all involved over the next couple of weeks and congratulations again to Parish Church 👊
