Formby Woods

Accessible Route Review: Formby Beach Woods (Asparagus Trail)

Facts about the route:
📏 Length: 3 km / 2 Miles
🚗 Parking: Blue badge spots and standard parking
🌲 Terrain: Mostly uneven throughout
🏔️ Incline: Consistently steep
⚠️Sand in multiple areas
♿️ Standard accessible toilet near car park

⭐ RoveAbility Rating: "For Few (Equipment Suggested)"
(This depends on your level of mobility and equipment being used).

Our opinion:
We liked this route, however there are notable areas which were less than ideal. There are considerable patches of sand which make using a manual wheelchair quite difficult, however there are various paths in the same woodland which we did not attempt.

We think this route is beautiful but would be great if users consider this information and plan accordingly.

Accessible Route Review: Grasmere, Rydal Circular

Facts about the route:
📏 Length: 11 km / 7 Miles
🚗 Parking: Many blue badge spots and standard parking
🌲 Terrain: Mostly uneven throughout
🏔️ Incline: Consistently steep
⚠️Rocky and narrow in places
♿️ Standard accessible toilet nearby

⭐ RoveAbility Rating: "For Some"
(This depends on your level of mobility and equipment being used).

Our opinion:
We love this picturesque route however on this occasion Emma did this one solo due to some features of it. There are considerable trip hazards which were incompatible with Luke's manual wheelchair.
We think this route is brilliant for families and people using walking aids.

Accessible Route Review: Malham Cove

Is Malham Cove accessible? Today we’re giving it a full RoveAbility rating to help you decide if it’s the right route for you!

Facts about the route:
📏 Length: 3.2km /2 Miles
🚗 Parking (With Tarrif)
🌲 Terrain: Smooth with uneven patches
🏔️ Incline: Some moderate inclines
⚠️The beginning of the route does involve going up a steep country road
🛵 Accessible Tramper available to hire from the tourist centre (book in advance)
♿️ Standard accessible toilets (radar key required)

⭐ RoveAbility Rating: "For Many"
(This depends on your level of mobility and equipment being used).

Our opinion:
We think that Malham Cove is an excellent place to go and is suitable for many people. The terrain is good, though in parts isn't perfect. There are a couple of steep sections particularly near the beginning.

In the heart of the gorgeous Yorkshire Dales, the route is picturesque and natural, boasting excellent views and impressive natural landmarks. People may struggle to reach the base of the cove due to a stile and boulders surrounding the path but the route is good otherwise.

There are minimal amenities nearby including standard accessible (limited) parking, accessible toilets and tourist centre.

Accessible Hike Reviews: Loggerheads Country Park

Is the country park really accessible? Today we’re giving it a full RoveAbility rating to help you decide if it’s the right hike for you!

Facts about the route:
📏 Length: between 0.5 miles and 17.07 miles depending on how far you take it
🌲 Terrain: concrete with stones. Not the easiest but not deep so doable for me.
🏔️ Incline: The route itself is mostly flat, however the cafe and amenities (toilets etc) are down a really steep hill which we struggled with greatly
⭐ RoveAbility Rating: "For Many" (This depends on your level of mobility and equipment).

A big thank you to Lee for joining Luke on this route and agreeing to be featured on this video. A second opinion on the routes is how we can be as accurate as possible for our audience!

Our opinion:
We believe this park is definitely worth a visit. The views are fantastic and the route is not too difficult if you can avoid the single steep hill. Also, there are two car parks. One is on level with the route, the other is at the bottom of a substantial hill to the beginning of the route. We reccomend you take this into account when parking.
