The Yamas and Niyamas are the ethical foundations of yoga, offering simple ways to bring the practice beyond the mat and into everyday life. 🌿
They invite us to explore how we relate to ourselves, to others, and to the world around us — with greater awareness, kindness and intention.
Rather than rules to follow perfectly, they are gentle invitations to pause, reflect and notice how we live.
In class this week we have been thinking about Ahimsa (non-violence) and Satya (truthfulness).
Ahimsa is more that just not being violent, it's about consideration of everyone and everything, including ourselves. Listen to your body as you practice yoga and don't force yourself into poses.
Satya is more than simply telling the truth, it's about telling a pleasant truth and perhaps holding back an unpleasant truth. In yoga practice it's about being completely honest about where you're at today and not where your ego wants you to be.
Over the next few posts, we’ll explore each one and discover how these ancient teachings can still be meaningful in our modern lives.
