One of the great reasons I get the running shoes on and get out for a run is to clear by head, with all the stresses that we all have on a daily basis, it a a great feeling to get out and switch off from it all and just enjoy the simplicity of putting one foot in front of the other and then the sense of achievement once I get to the end of my run.

Last week I missed my parkrun PB by 2secs, this week I smashed over a minute off it!! Now that daylight savings has changed and the days are longer, it makes getting out for a run that much easier. As marathon season is upon us it's a great opportunity to get some good training in, whether that's a nice long run or a short sharp speed work session, putting the effort in now makes it all worth it as we work towards our goals of finishing that first race or smashing a new PB!! First run since having our second child, a cool, misty start to a busy parkrun at with almost 600 runners. Great to blow some cobwebs out and get back into it.
As marathon season is upon us and the weather in London has been unseasonably warm, it has been great running weather.

Happy International Podiatry Day!!
Today is the day to celebrate and promote the job/career that I love, it has taken me outside my comfort zone many times and challenges me every single day to be the best and to do my best to help solve foot pain!!
As a podiatrist I am often the one that will see someone's feet regularly, this gives me a lot of insight into someone's health, from the colour or thickness of the toenails, the texture, colour and temperature of the skin, even feeling or hearing how regular the pulse may be.
Many of us have detected potentially life threatening heart arrhythmias, DVTs (blood clots) or sinister looking skin lesions. The undiagnosed fracture or the infected toe that has gone into the bone, we see it all and that's not even half of it!!

Finally home after a long and busy day in the clinic followed up by a great CPD evening on recreational runners and injuries... In particular tonight was on patellofemoral (knee) pain, hip pain and Achilles tendonopathy. The key take home messages were we need to keep looking for patterns as risks for developing knee pain when running. There are subgroups of runners who get knee pain but have researchers stumped as to why. The big key to Achilles injury rehab is exercise NOT total rest or injections. But the best news is... Running doesn't increase risk for one OA... Football had a much higher risk!!

One of the things I love about my job is the chance to get creative, think outside the box and really challenge myself to get my patients pain free and doing what they want to be doing.
Today's challenge was creating a pair of orthoses to fit into a dance shoe... Others had said it wasn't possible... End result one pair of dance shoe orthoses and one happy patient!!

As the days are starting to get a little longer, the winter run series are coming to an end which means we are heading towards the London Marathon. This is the biggest event in the Running calendar and sometimes we need a bit of help to get to that start line.

I know this page has been quiet for a while now, I had a manic finish to 2017 that included heading back to New Zealand for Christmas!! I've been back in London for a week struggling to adjust to the time difference, drop in temperature and getting back into work. So today I decided I'd blow some cobwebs out and go for a run... This happened while I was out, loved it and felt great to get back into it!! Happy running!!

Just getting back home after a long day in Liverpool learning some new skills on running gait analysis and running training. The key theme was biofeedback utilising video gait analysis. I can't wait to use these new skills.
