It took time, effort, determination, and perseverance, but it was definitely worth it. Feeling stuck in a situation that was 'too good to change but too bad to stay' wasn't a perspective I could accept.
It was hard, it was painful, and the journey was full of ups and downs, but I made the change and transformed my life for the better.

As the saying goes, 'Happiness requires freedom, and freedom requires courage.' What about you?

By returning to the natural patterns of learning and growth throughout life cycles, we can reassess what has passed, take the lessons, and move on.

However, we cannot predict what the next cycle will bring until it arrives with new lessons.

Otherwise, it would be easy for us to avoid life's slaps on the face, which are essential for bringing growth and maturity as we move forward.

Celebrating Traditions is Impossible, but the Gift is Already Here.

So, we were all geared up for a jolly Christmas celebration about ten days ago. My mate, a young colleague, was expecting her first child on the 22nd of December. I mean, what better present could Santa bring to these two lovebirds, right?

But here's the twist. The little one's arrival wasn't as expected. His dad was in the midst of a heated argument with his mum, and things got so intense that she ended up leaking amniotic fluid a week earlier than expected. The whole situation was pretty traumatic and stemmed from some serious issues in their relationship, creating a not-so-great atmosphere for the baby.

As I've been supporting them through this, it's become clear that just wanting to celebrate traditions isn't cutting it for them. They're finding it tough to bask in the joy of the precious gift they've received. There's some heavy emotional baggage and unhealed wounds simmering beneath the surface. The holiday traditions that used to bring joy now feel kind of painful or empty, given the changed circumstances. Adapting to the new normal requires a fresh take on celebrating traditions, or else the lack of understanding and common values can be a real downer.

This is where my role as a therapist and coach comes in. I specialise in helping individuals and couples navigate these challenging moments, offering support and guidance to heal those emotional wounds. First-time motherhood should be this blissful experience, right? It's a mix of selfless love, care, and support for the emotional needs of both the mum and the new arrival. Typically, a lot of these responsibilities fall on the partner's shoulders.

Moral of the story: Before (or even after) bringing a new innocent soul into the mix, it's crucial to deal with your own emotional baggage. Dig deep, heal those wounds, and learn to love yourself. And don't shy away from expressing what's cooking inside you. As a therapist and coach, I'm here to provide the tools and insights needed to navigate these challenges and keep holiday traditions alive and merry.
