I missed my run this morning. It was out of my hands. Our 12 week old son had a terrible night's sleep and during the time when I was supposed to start my run, I was soothing him back to sleep.

These things happened and, as much as they're frustrating, it's okay. I've been thinking today about what we can do when we miss training, whether it's a run, a strength session, our any part of our plan.

Genuine question. When I first started running, I thought long runs meant I'd have to be out on the road for hours at a time. I also had totally the wrong idea about what sort of pace I should be running on my long runs!

What distance counts as a long run for you?

The swim section of the triathlon is always the bit that I struggle with the most. I'm not exactly a natural swimmer. Don't get me wrong, I could always swim well enough to mess around in the pool/ocean on holiday, but that was my limit.

Training for my first triathlon meant learning how to actually swim properly (not keeping my head above water at all times like I used to), building my upper body strength and trying to find a wetsuit that actually fit 😂

Despite the challenges, or perhaps because of them, I found swim training to be so much more exciting than run/cycle training, because I managed to make so much rapid progress in a short period of time.

There's still a long way to go though so any resources you can recommend/accounts to follow would be very helpful 😂🏊‍♂️

It's never too late to take up endurance sports and the benefits of exercising later in life are clear for all to see.

There are countless examples of people who weren't athletes in their early life but have gone on to achieve great things. Don't put barriers on your potential.
