1-1 Personal Training With An Unrivalled Level of Care, Detail and Support

18 fitness myths debunked - and what you should do instead 17/06/2023

We had the privilege of debunking 18 fitness myths in an article, with a particular emphasis on challenging the "just do it" mentality.

The confusion arises because it’s technically true. At a certain point, we must all commit to physical action in order to achieve a physical feat. However, the subtext that you ought to disregard (or deny) your reservations and emotions can be harmful when trying to form a sustainable fitness habit.

Adherence is the key to results, and enjoyment is the key to adherence.

The good news is that exercise can be enjoyable, even if it never has been before. It takes time, patience and self-love, but you can transform your lifestyle without forgoing your emotions. Your identity is entirely up to you.

It's a pleasure to introduce Daniel Espinosa as part of the West London PT family.

It took almost six months of searching to find a trainer we were certain would deliver the level of care and detail we wanted, but we honestly couldn't have ended up with someone better.

Within weeks of joining our shared PT studio, he got the recognition of some of the most experienced PTs there. It was through their recommendation that we crossed paths.

Dan won out because of his technical expertise, hustling spirit and dedication to coaching. Outside of being a brilliant technical coach (with a backlog of fantastic client results), Dan has an empathetic and kind demeanour that makes him a pleasure to work alongside.

We're lucky to have him on board and excited for the future!

KIMPIES is a phrase we learned from . It came from the Marines, and are the parameters for what makes a Royal Marine Personal Training Instructor (PTI), which is one tough job. It's massively underpublicised and represents EVERY aspect of what makes an amazing (or not so amazing) coach.

Knowledge: There's no way around it: you've got to know what you're talking about. Everyone at West London PT has verified expertise and proactively draws on their education and experience.

Instructional Ability: How efficiently can you pass on your expertise to clients? The importance of this one CANNOT be overstated.

Manner: Are you engaging people, or looking at your phone and avoiding eye contact? How we carry ourselves affects trust and, in turn, the output of our clients.

Presentation: Do you practise what you preach? When you do, it shows.

Infinite Patience (And Tactfulness): If somebody isn't getting it, do you blame them and get frustrated or do you try as many approaches as it takes. If they're not getting it, we're not doing our jobs.

Enthusiasm: No one should be bored! You don't have to bounce off the walls, but it should be obvious that you care.

Self Reflection: Continuously growing by staying honest, self-aware and proactively improving. If you've got this down, the only way is up.

Everyone at West London PT builds their service around KIMPIES, and we hope that's reflected in the quality of our feedback. Hit the link in our bio for a fast, pressure-free consultation.

A lot of people expect PT to be the bridge that connects those circles, but it isn’t. There isn’t a single trainer, doctor, superfood or supplement that can make those experiences compatible.

We’re not saying that you ought to be in the fitness camp.

You might be very happy with the pub lifestyle, and we’re not going to wag our fingers or call you lazy for choosing it. Enjoy life how you want!

But, if you’re considering a personal trainer, you’ve probably been in the pub camp for a while and feel a little conflicted about committing to it.

You can’t experience both circles at once. They are simply separate life experiences. Not saying one is better than the other, they’re just different. You won’t know one until you’ve left the other.

It’s not about ‘ditching the booze’, ‘calming down’, or ‘going on a diet’. It’s not about a ‘kick up the arse’, either. That all sounds pretty awful.

It’s simply making a decision to try experiencing something else. Just for fun, for curiosity, and for richness of life.

If you don’t like it, that’s fine! You contextualised your choice and experienced something new.

A few pints, a few mates and a few plates can be a real buzz, a super pleasure.

Sipping a half pint as your friends talk about how inspired they were by the white-collar fight you took part in is also a buzz.

Looking forward to playing with your kids without feeling breathless is a buzz.

Knowing you could get up from that table and run a half marathon is a buzz.

We reckon that what makes a few drinks by the river feel great isn’t the food or drink. Sure, there’s a sensory element with the salts, sugars and fats, but I don’t think that’s why people adopt it so passionately. It’s the sense of wholeness, peace and camaraderie. Those don’t disappear when you leave the pub camp.

If you’re curious about a different buzz, commit to a different lifestyle for a few months.

The pub camp is there for you any time you want to go back, and nobody’s going to judge you. Do what’s right for you!

PS: The fitness camp doesn't mean no drinking. We can train you super efficiently so none of your efforts are wasted. Just hit the link in our bio.

Hey! It's been a long time coming, but it's about time I took the plunge.

West London Personal Training is now on Facebook, and it looks like we've got a lot of catching up to do.

One thing I don't want is for this to be the kind of page people skip over. You know, a boring one.

I want people to expect content that's hugely technically helpful, personal or at least makes you crack a smile. NOT a corporate snoozefest.

That's a lot to accomplish, and those are pretty high expectations. A brand voice? Success stories? Memes? Honestly, I'll have to figure it out as I go. Stay tuned as I try to get this right.

I guess it's time for some hashtags
