Bar Lawn Tennis Society

The Bar LTC club night took place on Monday 24 June at Lincoln's Inn Fields, followed by supper in Lincoln's Inn. Big thank you to Alex Perry for organising and Sir Nicholas Mostyn and his team for burning the midnight oil to book the courts.

The Bar LTS played Moor Park on their magnificent grass courts on Sunday 16 June 2024. Lunch was in the historic Arnhem room, which was the headquarters for the 1st Airborne Corps between 1944-45 in which the Battle of Arnhem was planned. Many thanks to Moor Park for such an enjoyable day.

Congratulations to the Inner Temple team that won the 2023 Hargreaves Cup which was played at Chesham 1879 LTC. John Taylor presented captain Selva Ramasamy with the Hargreaves Cup. As well as Selva, the Inner team was Adam Pacifico, Greg Johnson and Oliver Weetch.

Members of the Society enjoyed members' evening on Monday 19 June at Lincoln's Inn Fields followed by supper at Lincoln's Inn. Thanks to Nick Mostyn and Alex Perry for organising such another great evening

2023 BLTS Fixtures.

The Common Law Cup Dinner took place in the splendid mansion at Moor Park. Lord Mance, the Society's President, was presented with the lifetime contribution award to the law and tennis.

The Common Law Cup is a biennial match between the English Bar, Irish Bar and US Bar. The English Bar last hosted the match in 2018 in the splendid surroundings of Moor Park.

Inner Temple won the Hargreaves Cup, the annual inter-Inns tennis tournament. Congratulations to Inner Temple captain Selva Ramasamy and team. The match was followed by a BBQ - a big thank you to Chesham 1879 Lawn Tennus Club for its excellent facilities and hospitality.

The Common Law Cup triangular match between the English Bar, Irish Bar and US Bar took place at the Fitzwilliam Club, Dublin over the weekend of 22-23 July 2022. The weekend started with an extremely warm Irish welcome on the Friday evening. The triangular match took place on the Saturday with the Irish coming out on top after winning the deciding women's doubles in the final round against the US. A big thank you to the Fitzwilliam Club for their fantastic hospitality and to John Sweetman, the Irish captain, who organised the entire weekend. The English Bar was represented by Emily Monson, Birgitta Mayer, John Taylor, Richard Ground, Ian Bartlett, Hugh Flannagan, Tim Reardon and Joel Donovan.

A great match between the English Bar v Irish Bar at the Fitzwilliam Club, Dublin over the weekend of 17-18 September 2022. The English team was John Taylor, Edward Faulks, Andrew Selby, Robin Hollington, Nick Corsellis,Cheya Malik, Alice Taylor and Dan Hollington. The English team won 16-8.

Welcome to the Bar Lawn Tennis Society.

The objective of the Society is to promote the playing and enjoyment of lawn tennis amongst members of the Bench and Bar of England and Wales, including the playing of matches.

Our tennis season starts in May and runs through to September with a mixture of matches and tournaments to suit all standards of play. These include matches against Roehampton, Moor Park, the Law Society, the Irish Bar, the French Bar and the US Bar. The Society’s tournaments include the Broughton Salver (women’s singles), Risley Cup (men’s singles), the Neill Trophy (mixed doubles) and the Hargreaves Cup (inter-inns doubles tournament). The Society’s club night is played at Lincoln’s Inn Fields. The full calendar of events for 2023 can be found on the Society's website.
