What's the difference between an average LinkedIn Recommendation and a cracking one? 🤔
Lots of us have Recommendations that are generously given, but could be sooooo much more powerful.
Recommendations shouldn't be people just saying what a jolly nice person you are 🤦♀️
How to get cracking Recommendations? It's all in the ask.
Want to know exactly how? My course, Shine on LinkedIn has a great module on Recommendations with templates and examples to help you make a gracious, non-icky request that will really yield results.
Check out all the details via my bio. The great news? It's only £99 😱

Your LinkedIn profile is a marketing document for the work you WANT to do, not a HISTORICAL RECORD of all the stuff you already did.
✋Stop focusing backwards and focus forwards.
I’m amazed how many people tell the wrong story with what they choose to write ...
.. and then get frustrated by being approached for work they're no longer interested in.
You need to CURATE what you share.
Which is likely to mean:
🔵 Giving less space and emphasis to work that's no longer relevant to your next steps
🔵 Finding ways to incorporate keywords linked to the work you want, not the work you’ve traditionally done
🔵 Moving away from specific job titles and showcasing transferable skills and experiences instead
If you want to finally master LinkedIn then check out my Bio for my £99 Shine on LinkedIn course.
"Since the course I'm driving my friends and family mad because I'm so evangelical about LinkedIn. It's been a transformative experience - it's made me feel empowered as a professional. I've found a powerful tool to seek out opportunities in my industry on my own terms".

Like it or not, you've created a professional brand by being on LinkedIn 😱 (or here on Insta)
You've built it with:
🔵 the style you adopted when writing your Headline and About section
🔵 the photos, visual images and colours you choose
🔵 the type of content you decide to share
🔵 the way you write from its level of formality, vulnerability or rebellion to your use of humour, statistics, stories, personal insights and analysis
🔵 the way you engage with other people
Whether you’re running your own business or working for someone else, it’s crucial to have a LinkedIn presence that’s authentic and engaging, and truly reflects the person other people will meet off the page!
Remember to consider:
🟣 your own natural personality
🟣 the kind of LinkedIn profiles you like and are drawn to
🟣 the preferences and needs of your target audience
🟣 the norms and expectations of your industry/sector/field (and whether you like them!)
From my list, pick the 3-5 words you want people to use to describe you professionally ... and then sense-check them against what people are ACTUALLY likely to say after spending 10 minutes browsing your LinkedIn page 🫤
Hit or miss?

Use this test for maximum LinkedIn impact 💡
Whether you're sharing your latest career update, wisdom or random thought, whether you're updating your headline or About section, STOP and ask yourself "So What?!"
Because if your activity doesn't pass the "So What?" test, your audience is likely to be thinking the same thing.
Don't be the person shouting into the void 📣
Be the person whose profile and posts come with a built-in reason for people to care 😀
If you need to overhaul your LinkedIn profile and learn to post with impact, then check out my Bio for details of my £99 Shine On LinkedIn course.

If your LinkedIn banner photo could speak ... what message would it be sending out?! 😂
That magical rectangle is a massive piece of LinkedIn real estate. It's the first thing that smacks people in the face when they find you 🥊
So please say goodbye to the dreaded "grey swirls of doom" that are giving all kinds of unhelpful impressions 😬
And be sure that the picture you choose is sending the message you want about who you are, the work you do or how you can help.
There's no RIGHT picture and there's absolutely room for your personality and preference.
But it's vital to think about CONGRUITY - using a picture that immediately and clearly signals who you are, visually reinforces your professional message and helps people remember you. For all the right reasons.
What do you think your banner photo says about YOU?
If you need help to overhaul your LinkedIn profile and make the platform work for you, then check out my Bio for details of my £99 Shine On LinkedIn course.

Why are you posting on LinkedIn when you could just be commenting?!
Creating posts for LinkedIn can take ages (I should know, this natty Carousel didn't make itself).
So before you commit tons of time and energy to content creation ...
.. consider whether commenting on other people's posts could serve you equally well (or better).
Commenting allows you to:
✅ reach other people's interesting followers (especially great when you are starting out and don't have a big network yet)
✅ start conversations and build genuine relationships
✅ easily showcase your knowledge by adding new insights and perspectives
But don't forget ... commenting is an art form all of its own (scroll through to see what NOT to do 😬).
What do you think makes a great comment? (Let's see just how meta we can make this 😂)

Most people write their LinkedIn posts like a diary entry 😬
I call this the "Chronicler" persona 📜 and it's often overused and underpowered.
I’ve identified SEVEN other Posting Personas you could (and should) experiment with: the Storyteller, the Resource Curator, the Teacher, the Investigator, the Promoter, the Thought Leader and the Rebel ...
As well as plenty of techniques to up your “Chronicler” game when you really must use it.
Check out my Bio for details of my £99 Shine On LinkedIn course.
Anyone else ready for more high-quality posts that don't just read like someone’s (quite dull) diary? No-one needs to always hear that you were "Thrilled to attend ..." 😜
