Our first session of the September Beginners Course seems to have gone rather well… Check out that volley shot!

In this session, the beginners were shown the ‘Barebow’ style of archery, and various techniques to shoot.

You will also see some familiar faces that seem very happy with a certain sweet treat 😂

Coach Phil decided it was time he had some workshop apprentices, so here are the new Arrow Technicians in action!

Not really… Coach Phil just couldn’t be bothered to cut arrows anymore so he taught them how to do it instead 😂

“Give a man a cut arrow, and he’ll shoot for months. Teach a man to cut his own arrows, and he’ll shoot for life”.

(Famous proverb… promise).

Our BSA Club Social last night. Fun evening with lots of laughter, cold beers, Guinness and stories of adventurous escapades :)

Yesterday morning’s Handicap shoot; archers shooting various National rounds.

This monthly shoot provides opportunity for archers to improve their handicap rating and even achieve a new archery classification.

On Sunday, we had our second coaches workshop, held by L2 Coach Phil. This was on Coaching Archers with Disabilities… such an important area of coaching for the sport of Archery to grow and be inclusive.

Well done to everyone who took part and to Coach Phil for his knowledge.

There was some thoughtful feedback from some of the members:

“The course highlighted the challenges that prospective and established disabled archers face, whether it’s a visual or physical impairment. However, it also showed that with the many and varied aids available, it is entirely possible for anyone to enjoy archery at a competent level.”. - Barry, Field Captain.

“I really enjoyed the session to support archers with disabilities. While it was fun to try as an archer, it also helped me understand some of the elements we take for granted that others would struggle with, like getting to the line or nocking an arrow!” - Sandy, Coach.

So… newly qualified Coach Sandy took part in the Green Dragon Bowmen Windsor Shoot last weekend. Not only did he achieve a great feat by shooting in the scorching heat, he also managed to emulate his hero, Robin Hood, by performing one! If you are wondering what that is, can you spot an arrow, inside of another arrow in the picture? There’s your answer.

Even got his Robin Hood mentioned in the GDB web post!
