Early Doors no2 - Andy Crysell. Early Doors, is a new content section on the BOP website where we try to capture the stories of people whose nights & days in The Acid House helped shape things their way. Andy Crysell has spent three decades connecting underground, nighttime culture with the wider, daytime world. First as a journalist for the likes of DJ, Muzik, NME and The Face, then with his own hugely successful creative and insight agencies, and more recently with his book Selling The Night, an eye-opening history of how every industry from tourism to gaming has co-opted club culture.

More recently, he’s also produced two volumes of No Way Back, compendiums of lost subculture writing from style magazines and the music press.

As we know Acid House changed the world!

“(Acid house) just totally informed the entire being I am now…” Sarah Feeney came of age in clubs, and has built a creative career on what she learned at the Haçienda, Hulme Crescents, Cream and more. For the first in our new series of conversations with the creative class who grew up around clubs, she tells us about the influence of The Clothes Show, memories of Quadrant Park and the record that sounded better than any other on the Haç’s sound system.

“Getting to the night early to listen to some of my favourite DJ’s play the warm up set, left an indelible mark on my music taste. Nights including Sin at Astoria, kazoo, flying at soho theatre and full circle; the warm up sets were legendary.

A mix of 12” extended 80’s pop, indie dance music remixes and dad rock heavily leaning to a Balearic mood, meant the mix was very eclectic and warmed up the crowd for the dancing to start.
