Read my new blog about my journey to the Patrouille des Glaciers (PDG).
Less than 18 months before the race, I had barely skied in over 25 years and had no experience with ski touring, skinning uphill, glacier travel, or off-piste skiing.
The journey involved a huge technical learning curve, Skimo camps, long days in the mountains, and a lot of time spent outside my comfort zone.
One of the toughest and most rewarding challenges I’ve ever done.

A few highlights from the — so happy to finish one of the toughest ski mountaineering races out there.
Having picked up skiing again less than 18 months ago, after about a 25-year break, it’s been a very tough journey. From my first ski tour and real off-piste in early January — face-planting in the snow every 10 minutes — the possibility of finishing the PDG felt a long way off.
Even leading up to the race, I was questioning whether I could do it. But that’s exactly why I wanted to — I wanted it to be hard, and to face the real possibility that I might not finish.
It really feels like I’ve gone from zero to hero, but it’s taken resilience and a lot of getting back up again (literally every 10 minutes in January), which made finishing even more rewarding.
It was still incredibly tough — skiing roped up in the dark was especially challenging — but having such a great team made all the difference. It was also great to be part of such a strong team effort again, with my two teammates .rocks & as well as the wider teams and support crew .jones.warner and others.
In summary: a fantastic experience. I think skimo might be my new sport! DM me if you want to know how to get into it.
Now to going back home to x2 kids with chicken pox and probably get more sleep during the PDG! 🤦♂️😆

After picking up skiing again after nearly 25 years, I’ve spent the last 18 months training for Patrouille des Glaciers next week.
Equal parts excited… and slightly sh****ng myself.
A year ago I’d never skied off-piste or touched ski touring. Now I finally get the chance to test both my skiing and fitness in one of the toughest races out there.
Skimo is a sport I’ve completely fallen in love with — and it’s introduced me to some incredible people along the way. The training has been solid, and I’m feeling strong.
Let’s see what happens.

Day 2 of Skimo training. An amazing day of going up and don the mountain. First ascent with then a few more on my own. Managed to really rump up the milage and altitude gain through the day. It over half distance and climb of the PDG. Hard work but amazing. 32km and 2300m climb.

Day 1 of weekend Skimo training. Less than a month to go to PDG. Not the most pleasant day in the mountains. Just 28km and 1850m climb🥶⛷️😃👍

I’ve been having way too much fun working in Serre Chevalier over the last two weeks ❄️
Lots of ski touring and Skimo (ski mountaineering racing). So good working with an amazing group of athletes in the mountains.
DM me if you want to know how to get into Skimo or need help training for it.

An amazing week of ski touring, off-piste skiing, and more than a few face-plants into the snow ❄️⛷️😅
Huge shout-out to .rocks for brilliant leadership and coaching — fantastic training and preparation for the PDG. We’re developing a great team and it’s exciting to see it coming together .jones.warner
