Sh*to-Ryū founder Kenwa Mabuni saw Karate and Kobudō as inseparable. He mentored the legendary kobudo master Shinken Taira to preserve this bond, leading Taira to systematize 42 lethal weapon kata. In the Jikan Kai we aim to honour this lineage, and therefore we embrace a singular truth: whether wielding a Bō or a fist, the footwork, mechanics, and explosive power all come from the exact same source.

Ippon kumite 一本組手 also known as 'one-step sparring' in karate, is designed to hone responses to various situations. It develops alertness, optimisation of range, physical speed, composure, and quick decision making.
When done correctly, this training therefore provides us with the efficiency required to exploit an opponent's vulnerabilities when there is very little time to do so.

Yesterday Jikan Kai members from London demonstrated traditional jujutsu for the Japanese Budo Association (JBA) at Japan's most important military shrine, Yasukuni Jinja, in Tokyo. The JBA's Hono Embu was dedicated to world peace. Congratulations to our members and the JBA family.
