History in the making: the inaugural GT3 race took place 20 years ago TODAY at Silverstone where Hector Lester, Allan Simonsen and JMB Racing's Ferrari 430 became the class' first-ever winners. Andrea Ceccato and Stefano Livio (Racing Box Dodge Viper) denied the same combination a clean sweep on Sunday.

Eight manufacturers and 44 entries contested the FIA GT3 European Championship season opener, which acted as chief support to another SRO-run series: the FIA GT Championship.

Young Silver drivers: this could be YOU!

Our GT talent search is going global! 🌍 will take talent development to a new level this season by providing six drivers from as many different series with career-changing opportunities for 2027.

The innovative concept creates a pathway for young hopefuls to reach the top of global GT racing through skill, dedication and professionalism. SRO GT Academy will not only identify the stars of tomorrow: it will put them in a position to successfully demonstrate their potential on the world stage.

A number of common regulations will apply across all three elements. In addition to being classified Silver by the FIA and under 30 years of age on 31 December 2026, drivers must run the full season in their chosen series. Competing for the Academy prize in more than one series is not permitted, and entrants may not have participated in more than one GT World Europe event.

Points-scoring will be based on both a common set of criteria – such as average race pace over 10 laps and fastest individual times – and continent-specific requirements that include but are not limited to qualifying results and the race classification as the pit window opens. Conversely, drivers deemed responsible for incidents by the panel of stewards or race-ending accidents will incur a points deduction.

Ultimately, accurately assessing an individual’s performance regardless of their co-driver’s contribution lies at the very heart of SRO GT Academy’s ethos.

HWA’s near-30-year partnership with Mercedes-AMG is at an end. Initially successful in the DTM, their customer GT racing collaboration began with the SLS AMG GT3 in 2010 and went on to encompass both subsequent GT3 models as well as Affalterbach’s GT2, GT4 and GT Track Series cars.

Their achievements are too numerous to list but include major championship and race wins - including twice at - all over the world.

SRO Motorsports Group has welcomed Paul Hembery as its first global Chief Marketing Officer, marking a major step in the company’s continued international expansion.

Hembery joins the world leader in GT racing after six years in California, where he advised on sports business acquisitions, automotive startups, and strategic growth ventures. His broad experience in brand building and high performance business transformation positions him perfectly for his new role.

He previously led Pirelli’s worldwide motorsport programme, guiding the brand into Formula One while strengthening its deep ties with GT racing. His work helped evolve Pirelli from a tyre supplier into a lifestyle powerhouse with global reach. At SRO, he will drive that same ambition as he unifies the company’s marketing, sales, design, and communications teams while overseeing SRO’s major investment programme to elevate Challenge powered by AWS across four continents.

“No other motorsport organisation can match the sheer scale of SRO’s global footprint, built through Stéphane’s vision and relentless drive,” said Paul. “The growth year after year has been remarkable, and I’m thrilled to help steer the next chapter. The potential ahead is immense, and joining SRO is an exciting opportunity to push that momentum even further.”

Hembery joined SRO on December 1 and is based in its London office.
