Some people I know and many people I don’t know,
feel a lot of pain tonight.
Well… not just tonight.
Every night. Every day.
But still, tonight hits different.
The loss of a loved one
feels unbearable.
Injust. Cruel. Demoralising.
My heart is with everyone who suffers quietly tonight. Who tries to hold their tears.
Tries to look normal.
Tries to be joyful for the sake of their families.
Tries not to question the existence of a higher good/purpose.
Tries to accept they will never feel full again.
They will always be half.
Or less than half.
Or completely empty.
I’m sure your loved ones, see your heartbreak from above.
Merry Christmas.
May you find peace in your grief.
May you find strength in your hopelessness.

Despite being a new tutor in 2014, I did not hesitate to incorporate blockchain and bitcoin in my digital innovation lectures.
I had a very sketchy understanding of the technical foundation of crypto, but somehow I instantly felt that the core premise of this innovation, which is decentralisation, would not be just its biggest strength, but also its biggest weakness.
So I came up with this tagline for my lectures: “The future of crypto is centralized”.
Most people wouldn’t get the irony, but those who did, would simply argue that I don’t understand crypto, which was mostly true.
But what I think I understand is human behaviour (to a certain extent obviously). People don’t trust centralized structures, but surely don’t trust each other either. And this is what made me skeptical about decentralization.
Fast forward in November 2022 and this is what the press reports:
“Binance boss Changpeng Zhao hasn't been coy about this vision.
‘If decentralization simply increases freedom but decreases security and ease-of-use, there is a point where it becomes a net negative, and may not be worth it’.
It's the biggest irony of all: In an industry that preaches decentralization as if it's religion, Binance's defining titan is the most centralized of all.”
“BRAKING: FTX has been hacked and we are witnessing a heist being pulled off in realtime as all their remaining funds are now gone.
No one is sure exactly what's happening. Is it an inside job? Is SBF on the run? Government involvement? Theories are running wild tonight.
What is unfolding is one of the craziest stories we've ever seen in history of finance.”
