If you were Satan and wanted to convince Black women, especially those with the tightest coils and curls, that their hair was inferior... how would you do it?

I asked ChatGPT this very question (inspired by ). Here’s what it said:

“I’d rewrite history to make it seem like beauty always looked like straight, European hair, erasing the richness and glory of our natural coils.

I’d control the media, making sure only women with straight or loosely curled hair get the spotlight, leaving those with tighter curls questioning their worth.

I’d plant seeds of doubt in the minds of little Black girls, making them feel like their hair is a problem to be fixed instead of a crown to be celebrated.

I’d make the beauty industry sell products promising ‘manageable’ hair, pushing relaxers, heat, and chemicals as the only way to be beautiful, professional, or ‘presentable.’

I’d whisper through policies and workplaces, discouraging natural styles like braids, afros, and locs as ‘unprofessional,’ forcing us to conform just to survive.”

But we know better. Our hair is beautiful. ✨

Our ribbon shaped strands emerge from crescent shaped follicles and can be moulded in a near infinite number of ways. Our hair reflects versatility and creativity. Reject the lies that tell you otherwise. Your crown doesn’t need to be straightened, tamed, or hidden—it deserves to be loved, nurtured, and worn proudly.

How do you practise appreciating your fro? 👇🏾

In a bid to keep more of the hair than I break off, these are the steps I’m taking.

I’m going back to the basics.

It’ll also make maintenance easier.

My hair is nicely sectioned, and each section has preserved partings within it.

If I want to twist my hair, I can simply reuse the sections I have.

For more texture, I can rock a braid out.

For creativity, I’m using accessories like this headband.

P.S. Curious about scalp care? I’m in the very early stages of developing something. DM me SCALP to stay in the loop and follow the journey.

Your natural hair can still surprise you 10+ years in!

I ran out of my Trini leave-in conditioner last week.

Didn’t think much of it.

Returned to a readily available commercial one, which I’d relied on back in the day.

Here are the massive differences I’ve observed so far:

👉🏾 this leave-in leaves visible residue in my strands, making them look dirty

👉🏾 this leave-in gives me very little hold. Usually, I can easily reset my hair in plaits overnight with my Irish Moss leave-in. It’s packed with film-forming humectants, which give some hold as well. This leave-in gives me huge fluffy hair the next day. It’s been interesting for sure. I like the volume, but I live for the predictability I get with my usual leave-in.

👉🏾 the leave-in helps me maintain pliability even at low humidity. Unfortunately, I have to do a lot of extra work to maintain this with the other one. It’s not impossible, but because of the residue it leaves, it’s not ideal to have to add shea butter into the mix as well.

Not sponsored at all. Just raw honesty - you know how we do 😉

Needless to say, I have a huge shipment coming in from very soon.

This is the aftermath of dutty mas.

Creole for “dirty masquerade”, this is a street parade characterised by mud, paint 🎨, powder and sometimes even chocolate, all in the name of getting mucky together - an act of unmasking through masking (to quote ).

Yesterday was pure energy and revelry on the road with .

This unit got me through it. My hair’s still intact. And I got to feel cute 🥰. I gave up wearing my hair out to these kinds of events years back. I’d get stressed 😩 afterwards with all the detangling needed and bits stuck in my hair. It wasn’t worth it.

❓Question: would you wear your hair out to a mucky paint/powder/chocolate/mud party?

‼️Growing your hair doesn’t need to stress you out. It can be enlivening, empowering and easeful. Ready for your journey to feel this way? DM me the word READY and let’s get started.

STREAM OF CONSCIOUSNESS

I missed my own hair so much while it was loc’d away 😭😩

The goddess locs were heavy af.

Here’s some raw dense unapologetic matte 4C realness for your timeline.

And I accidentally chopped out a good few chunks of my own hair (this always happens and I never learn 😂).

Currently figuring out how I’ll fit this all under a wig for dutty mas on Sunday (NHC).

I’ll probably do plaits and pin them. Also excited to crochet my leave-out like a wig slayer.

I love wearing wigs for carnival, especially j’ouvert. Sometimes I just do the plastic bag thing but let’s see if I figure out the wig for Sunday.

Also, there’s a new video up on my channel. Really glad you all seem to like it even though I’ve been ghosting YouTube big time. I love making YouTube videos. It’s my fave thing.

Also, I love how I can come into the clinic .eve.skin and take these pics - lol like what other job would allow that?! 😂

Also, DM me HEALTH for a trichology consultation.

And I’m sending you love if you’re dealing with stuff. Hopefully, it’ll pass. Also, sometimes doing (especially washing, detangling &/or removing braids from) your hair can help. It works for me (and my clients too).

And isn’t it cool that we grow this thread from our scalps? And that we can weave it into any style we wish? And that there are a near infinite number available to us?

Ok so there are a few new faces here so I thought today that I’d introduce myself for those of you who don’t know too much about me OR for those wanting to know more, so here goes!

Here are 5 things it’s important you know about me!

Background: Molecular Biology MSc ( & ); Trichology (College of Trichological Science & Practice; Trichocare; World Trichology Society); English Teaching ( CELTA); coaching (ongoing)

My why: I’m motivated by others’ and my own learning and growth, and obsessed with hair science 🧬

Helping you build confidence through your relationship with your hair allows me to nerd out on productivity, mindset, self-development, hair fibre chemistry, hair follicle biology, cosmetic science, creativity, course creation, curriculum design, nutrition and more! Plus I get so much gratification from seeing your transformation.

My favourite thing about what I do: getting to meet with inspiring people all around the world 🌍 clients, mentors, coaches, doctors, hair biologists & chemists, nutritionists, pharmacists, other trichologists and how much learning happens every day!

I also get loads of satisfaction from seeing your perception of your hair transform through our work together.

A question I always get asked: “have you always had long hair?” Big fat NO! I too used to think I didn’t have the right “genetics” for it. 🙄

Something you may not know about me: I’m obsessed with languages - I speak Spanish, German, and some French and Dutch, along with Trini Creole & some basic Jamaican patois (mainly from listening to dancehall music).
