When we are stuck it’s usually because we don’t welcome or are frightened by change. However being stuck is uncomfortable. It can lead to frustration and often leads to pain. So what’s the alternative? It’s to be honest with yourself. Be honest about what has happened/is happening, what you’re feeling, what you’re thinking, what you want, don’t want and what you need. The first step is being honest with your therapist, your coach and or your journal. You don’t have to have it all figured out. You simply have to take the first step in the process of getting unstuck which is being honest, open and transparent with yourself.

Every day we are given the opportunity to discover ourselves and recreate ourselves, especially when we grow through transitions such as starting a new job, becoming a parent, experiencing a health issue or simply overcoming the obstacles of the day and achieving our goals. Journalling helps keep an account of who you were, are and who you are becoming.

Happy World Kindness Day! 🙂 Self Kindness is beneficial to your health and wellbeing. Now imagine spreading that kindness to others, to strangers and in environments such as schools, workplaces etc. ‘Kindness A Pocket Guide’ is definitely worth reading. As an act of kindness gift yourself, a loved one or a stranger a copy Congrats for spreading awareness about how powerful kindness really is.

I celebrate & honour Naomi Osaka for prioritising her mental health & being transparent about it. This is what self care looks like.

It isn’t all nice quotes & hashtags on social media. It isn’t bubble baths & herbal teas.
It’s not pushing past your feelings when something feels inherently wrong.
It’s taking time to work out what your triggers are & what you need.

Although we now live in a time that conversations about mental health are not so taboo Naomi has faced backlash. She’s been criticised for her decision, called a narcissist by the media & fined £10.586k/$15k with threats of further fines even though she has shared she has been battling long bouts of depression since 2018. The treatment she received from Piers Morgan is how those who lack empathy will dismiss (like he did with Meghan Markle) or weaponise depression. Something I have experienced. Note Naomi wanted to play and asked for reasonable accommodation for her health issue but she was forced out of being able to play.

It’s this dismissal, harsh judgements & backlash that have forced many people to hide their depression from family, friends, employers & colleagues. It’s why many with depression & anxiety lie to avoid facing loved ones at events & gatherings or have sick days but choose not to disclose the real nature of their sickness. Sadly the energy it takes to hide depression is exhausting. Sometimes the energy it takes is too much for some & su***de is seen as a better alternative. So what Naomi did in putting her health first & sharing her story is powerful. I hope her courage & story makes us as a society have more empathy for those suffering with mental health issues.

Having faith requires you taking action. It might seem overwhelming now and you might not know all the steps but that’s OK have faith that you’ll figure it out along the way. 🙂 The fear of failing might be putting you off but not trying at all will feel worse. Take a small step today, tomorrow and the next. Before you know it you’ll be in your stride and then running towards achieving your dream. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

I love that we have reached a point in society where discussing mental health and wellbeing is becoming the norm. I love that more people are accessing support. I love that the field of positive psychology coaching which focuses on wellbeing is thriving. What I would like to see and hear more of is people reflecting that 'doing the work', growing, healing is hard, messy, confusing and at times painful BUT SO WORTH IT! Because when we do that it encourages to start their journey and others to keep growing🙂

Propagating a plant to grow a new one is so fascinating to me. The process is simple: 1. Decide which part of the plant you want to grow 2. Carefully cut below the node with sharp clean scissors or a knife 3. Put the cutting in a clean glass of water 4. Change the water every 3-5 days with fresh room temp water 5. Patience is required but you'll see the roots will grow⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
The same process can be applied to cultivating your mental health: 1. Decide which part of your mental wellbeing you need to focus on ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
2. Look at what is no longer serving you then make the decision to remove yourself from it ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
3. A fresh perspective, fresh thinking to enable growth may require you to do something different - from changing your environment, friends, job to working with a coach as you go about these changes⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
4. Make a plan for your future focusing on short-term( 3-6 to 12 months) mid term ( 1-3 years) and long term goals (5 years +)⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
5. Patience is required but you're doing the work creating a new life

No one truly knows what is happening in another person's life. Whether the world just feels really heavy right now or you feel that you shouldn't complain but you are not happy either. I'm sharing this because some days you just need to 'keep on keeping on.' This will look like different things to different people...from finding the motivation to simply get out of bed when you feel the pressures of life weighing you down. Or deciding to set goals or boundaries for yourself. Some days it may simply be to pause and focus on yourself. Your mental wellbeing matters.
