First of all, congrats to everyone who took on the Spiral.
The Spiral is not an easy race.
In fact, itโs not even a flat race, as someone pointed out while flaunting the 200m of elevation they'd racked up.
And Iโm going to argue that itโs not a predictable race either.
Some of you showed up injured, nervous, or both. There was no way youโd last very long, let alone enjoy it. And then you did.
Some of you arrived with specific goals that seemed well within reach. And then your stomach, hip, knees, or someone elseโs plans got in the way.
Thereโs one particular distance that seems like it should be right there if you can run a sub-4 marathon.
That distance remains elusive.
Though some can manage it. And still have enough left to carry themselves, their bag, another human, and a bike out of the pub.
Some of you looked like you might cry,
then told us you had the best time.

Anyway, see you next year.
I suspect the second time round is harder than the first.
But they say third time's the charm.
