Officers, Warrant Officers, Senior NCO's and Cadets,
After eight years and eleven months serving as your Commandant, the time has come for me to say farewell to South West London Army Cadet Force.
Writing this message is far more difficult than I ever imagined it would be. It is with a very heavy heart that I leave a Sector that has become so much more than an appointment. South West London ACF has been a family, a community and a place where I have had the privilege of serving alongside some of the finest volunteers and young people I could ever have hoped to meet.
Looking back over the past nine years, I do so with an overwhelming sense of pride. Together we have achieved so much. We have overcome challenges, embraced change and continued to grow from strength to strength. None of this would have been possible without the unwavering commitment, dedication and professionalism shown by every Cadet Force Adult Volunteer across the Sector.
To our CFAVs, thank you. Thank you for the countless hours you give so freely, often behind the scenes and without recognition. Thank you for the evenings, weekends, annual camps, exercises, meetings and all the sacrifices you and your families make in support of our cadets. Your commitment goes far beyond simply volunteering your time. You inspire, mentor, encourage and develop young people, helping them gain confidence, resilience, leadership skills and values that will remain with them throughout their lives. The impact you have on our cadets cannot be measured, and I hope you never underestimate the difference you make.
To our cadets, thank you for allowing me the privilege of being your Commandant. Watching so many of you develop into confident, capable and responsible young adults has been one of the greatest rewards of my time in post. Your enthusiasm, determination and willingness to challenge yourselves continually remind us why the Army Cadet Force exists. You are the future, and I encourage every one of you to make the very most of every opportunity that comes your way. Continue to work hard, support one another, embrace new challenges and always strive to be the very best version of yourselves.
I also want to thank every member of South West London ACF for the support, loyalty and friendship shown to me throughout my time as Commandant. I have never taken that support for granted, and I will always be grateful for the trust you placed in me to lead this remarkable organisation.
While I may be leaving the appointment, I leave knowing that South West London ACF is in a strong position because of the people who make it what it is. I have every confidence that the Sector will continue to flourish, building upon the excellent reputation that has been earned through the hard work, commitment and dedication of everyone involved.
As you move forward, I ask you never to forget why we wear the uniform. At the heart of everything we do are our cadets. They are the reason we give our time, the reason we volunteer and the reason we continually strive for excellence. Keep them at the centre of every decision, continue to support each other and never lose the sense of pride that comes with serving something bigger than ourselves.
It has been the greatest honour and privilege of my Army Cadet Force career to serve as your Commandant. I will always look back on my time with South West London ACF with immense pride, gratitude and affection.
Thank you, every one of you, for your commitment, your dedication, your professionalism and, above all, for your friendship. I wish you every success for the future and have no doubt that South West London Army Cadet Force will continue to go from strength to strength.
Take care of yourselves, continue to look after one another and, above all, continue to make a positive difference to the lives of our young people.
Thank you, and farewell.
With my sincere gratitude and very best wishes,
Colonel C R Jones
