Maiden City FC 3 v 2 Trojans YCG

Goalscorers: Lennon McWilliams, Oisín O’Donnell, Jamie McColgan.

Maiden City were put under pressure early on by a fast, aggressive start from Trojans, who forced the home side to defend deep in the opening exchanges.

City created the first major chance of the game when they were awarded a penalty, but Lennon McWilliams saw his spot‑kick brilliantly saved by Charlie Green, who dived low to keep the scores level.

Trojans then struck first. Eoin McNeil pressed high, forced a mistake, and capitalised to put the visitors 1–0 ahead.

City reacted superbly and equalised just before half time. A rapid counter attack sliced through Trojans, and Oisin O’Donnell applied the finishing touch to make it 1–1.

The second half was played at a relentless tempo, with both sides pushing forward. City took the lead on the hour mark when McWilliams drove down the line, cut inside, and fired into the near corner to make it 2–1.

Substitute Jamie McColgan extended the advantage with ten minutes remaining, finishing from inside the penalty area to give City a 3–1 cushion.

Trojans responded immediately, halving the deficit two minutes later with a powerful header from a long throw, setting up a tense finish.

Both teams continued to create chances in an entertaining end‑to‑end finale, but City held firm and edged the game by the odd goal in five.

City now host league leaders Cookstown at home on Saturday, with a 2pm kick off.

Tomorrow’s game against Inspired Talents has been postponed due to Inspired Talents competing in a cup fixture this weekend.

Our attention now turns to Tuesday evening, when we welcome Trojans YCG to Lisneal College Grounds.

Maiden City FC to honour legacy of late club stalwart Colin Colhoun Two-day youth cup at Lisneal to give back to Foyle Hospice for "incredible care and kindness" shown to Colin Colhoun

𝐂𝐎𝐋𝐈𝐍 𝐂𝐎𝐋𝐇𝐎𝐔𝐍 𝐌𝐄𝐌𝐎𝐑𝐈𝐀𝐋 𝐂𝐔𝐏 🏆❤️

We are delighted to announce that next weekend, Saturday 22nd & Sunday 23rd August, we will host the Colin Colhoun Memorial Cup, in memory of one of the very best and in support of the Colhoun family.

The tournament will run across two days for our 2015 and 2014 age groups, welcoming teams from Northern Ireland, the Republic of Ireland and England to Lisneal for what we hope will be a very special weekend of football.

Full details, including participating teams, fixtures and kick-off times, will be announced over the weekend.

We would love to see as many people as possible come down next weekend, enjoy the football and support a tournament being held in memory of a man who meant so much to our club and to so many people.
