The reel did better than expected.
The real measure of a successful reel isn’t views or likes. It’s how many self-appointed experts feel compelled to explain it to you 🤣🤿
I’m pleased to announce that the Self-Appointed International Panel of Diving Experts has officially arrived to review the footage 🍿

Buoyancy control challenge 🤿
I like adding some fun into training — sometimes an hour of games and challenges can teach more than simply repeating the same skill again and again.
Today’s challenge: pick up 1 kg weights one by one while staying at the same depth and controlling buoyancy only with breathing 🙂
One of the common mistakes new divers make is constantly inflating and deflating their BCD when changing depth. I know — I did exactly the same 😄
This exercise shows that not every small adjustment needs inflator buttons. For minor depth changes, proper breathing alone is enough to make those fine adjustments.
I made it to 3 kg — the 4th politely informed me that gravity had entered the chat 👀

Thursday = kit tryouts 🤿
Taking a few backplate setups to this Thirsday – a chance for newly qualified divers to try different options, compare them with a traditional BC, and see what suits them before buying their own gear.

Dusting off the deco stage for a gentle refresher tomorrow…
Let’s see if it remembers me – and more importantly, if I remember it.
A bit of practice before leading twinset/ADP training in April at – to look vaguely competent before pretending I know what I’m doing. 🤿😄

A gentle reminder to actually check your kit…
I bought this AP Valve pocket reel used on eBay ages ago — back when I was taking my first wobbly steps in scuba diving.
In true beginner optimism, I simply trusted it was exactly what it claimed to be. I tested it once in a pool, decided that was perfectly adequate quality control, and then happily forgot about it.
Today I gave my reels and spools a proper once-over and double-checked the line lengths. This model should have 45 m (~147 ft) of line.
It had 20 m.
Twenty.
So not quite a 45 m reel. More of a “hope for the best” edition.
Yes, I probably should have checked it when I bought it. But on the bright side, at least I had the rare flash of competence not to take it on a dive before checking it 😅
