Core exercises train the muscles in your pelvis, lower back, hips and abdomen to work together - vital with most people spending 6+ hours idle at a desk.
If you're not training your core, not only are you increasing your risk of injury, but you're also missing out on gains from your compound movements which benefit from a stronger core.

Benefits of the Barbell Deadlift π
While the deadlift is an exercise many dismiss, we believe it is a staple of any routine.
Below we have included 4 benefits of the barbell deadlift and incorporating it into your workouts π
1οΈβ£ Done with proper form, deadlifts help build a stronger, less injury-prone back,
The Journal of Strength and Conditioning Research indicated that deadlift training might help reduce pain and disability in some patients with low back pain (source below).
2οΈβ£ Deadlifts release anabolic hormones - Since deadlifts recruit and stress many muscles, it causes the release of key anabolic hormones, such as testosterone and HGH.
3οΈβ£ Deadlifts improve athleticism - A 2011 study showed a link between core strength β which is bolstered by the deadlift βand improved athletic performance on a series of athletic tests, including the forty-yard dash, the T-test, vertical jump, and medicine ball throw.
4οΈβ£ Youβll develop a stronger grip - Deadlifts require immense amounts of grip strength to hold onto the weight during the movement.
Canadian-American physician, Peter Attia (known for his medical practice that focuses on the science of longevity), has linked grip strength with extended life expectancy.

Itβs a chance to highlight the role physical activity plays across the UK, helping raise awareness of its importance in assisting us in leading healthier lifestyles through being physically active.

The Bear Crawl π
Arguably one of the most hated and mentally challenging exercises out there... and during this session in Leeds, we added a hill to make it even more taxing π
BMF believes that this is one of the best exercises for developing a military mindset...
Why? Because it levels you - we all have to climb to the top of the hill regardless, so you may as well get your head down and get to work πͺ

The recent news regarding the loss of Her Majesty the Queen has deeply saddened all of the team and the wider BMF family.
Our condolences go out to the Royal Family in this time of mourning. The Queen was a beacon in showing the best of what our great nation has to offer. She will be greatly missed.

The benefits of working out with resistance bands π
Resistance bands come in many shapes and forms, but it's long been known that they can benefit workout routines.
Below we have added four benefits to adding resistance bands into your workouts πͺ
1οΈβ£ Less chance of injury - bands allow for slow, controlled movements without the risk of pushing yourself too far.
If you can't work against a band's resistance, you won't use it. Whereas with a weight, you may find out too late that it's too heavy!
2οΈβ£ Cost-effective - you can pick up a set of bands for relatively cheap, allowing you to get a variety of exercise in, for not that much money.
3οΈβ£ Mobility - You can also use resistance bands for stretching and mobility work, which will, in turn, benefit your weight-lifting workouts.
4οΈβ£ Variable muscle stimulus - One major difference between free weights and resistance bands is the variable resistance applied through the full range of motion of an exercise.
With free weights, there are parts of the movement when the muscles aren't performing much work due to lack of gravity, such as at the top of a bicep curl.
You don't get this with resistance bands; in fact, the top of the movement is when there's the most tension!
