Pre season training for men has started, twice weekly... smashing the fitness!

It’s important especially after so much time off to progress back to sport gradually, starting with the groundwork fitness, strength and mobility work, and stick and ball work to prevent injury.

The guys are putting in the hard graft early, hoping to see results on the pitch when the season starts!





GB Hockey Coaching Hub has been inspiring coaches virtually throughout lockdown.

With the many frustrations of seeing empty pitches, being unable to train or play, I have seen an increase in regional coaches wanting to develop. I am hopeful that they will soon be able to translate their knowledge into practice on the pitch from grass roots level.

With this huge surge of online engagement with online hosts such as has really flipped the negativity of not being able to do anything for the last 4 months.

There’s nothing better as a coach than that winning feeling! Confirming that all the research, analysis, preparation, time and dedication to ensuring the team is best prepared going into a match, has paid off!

Before I was a coach I was player-coach, and before that, I was a player. There came a time in my career where I felt it was too hard being a player coach, to really focus on the game and analyse and make decisions in real time. So I decided to take the plunge and become a coach full time, with my playing career taking a back step.

This photo is of me coaching my old team Brookland’s to victory gaining promotion over local rivals. As great as a derby win is, achieving medals, promotions and being saved from relegation whilst coaching a team close to my heart who I grew up with and played for, has been one of my coaching career highlights.








🇦🇺 Throwback to 2012 in Australia, playing and coaching for a season at in Perth!🇦🇺

🏑 One of the best experiences of my life for many reasons.... 6 months on the other side of the world, living a totally different way of life, enjoying amazing weather, daily beach walks, making friends for life!

🏒 Being Player-Coach of a men’s team learning their playing system and integrating my coaching philosophy was a challenge but lots learnt and achieved! I was able to help the junior teams and coach in local schools and alongside some Senior Aussie Team players on camps. I attended an award dinner ceremony with the Aussie players and head coach Rick Charlesworth an absolute legend and someone who played a big part in me growing as a coach in my early years.

🏑 It was a very memorable time, being able to travel in Perth on weekends off (Margaret River, Lancelin, Greenhead to name a few) and not to forget fly over to Bali and propose to my now wife...who obviously said yes!

🏑 For anyone thinking of having a season abroad playing hockey I would absolutely recommend it. You will not only develop as a player on and off the field, you’ll make friends for life and experience unforgettable moments.
